I have 2 boys aged 14 and (soon to be) 12. My DH has suggested taking them to a festival this year as a bit of a "bonding" thing and a life experience for them. We have looked at Wildlife which is relatively small and is on during the afternoon, finishing at 1am. This means we will only be there for the afternoon and evening (so no hard core camping!). We would drive there and back. However, Im not sure if its a good idea or not....any thoughts?

Have taken mine to Carfest a few times, cars and food during the day music in the evening until 11pm.

We don't camp having no electric is hubby's deal breaker.

Ds has lost interest but my dd (17) still loves it. We're going this summer .. she still has her wristband on from last year Confused she tells me she washes it whilst in the shower Hmm

I have been to a couple of festivals with dp and dd. We all enjoyed going. It definitely expanded dd's horizons in terms of music.

Why do you think it would not be a good idea? What are you worried about?

I would with no qualms.

We've been taking DS to festivals since he was about 4 or 5, including Glastonbury , Download, Sonisphere. He loves them.

Now he's 14 he brings a mate, they're free to go off by themselves and we arrange to meet up every few hours if they do.

What exactly are you unsure of?

I'm only 17 myself and have been going to festivals with just my friends since i was 14/15! If they are responsible enough then certainly! Its a great chance to make amazing memories :)

We've taken ours to festivals since the youngest was 4 and they has a great time, we camped, there is usually a family area set aside at a lot of festivals, I would do it!

My 14 year old dd went to Isle of Wight fest and V fest last year she loved it. We are going to V again this year can't wait!

ChicRock how did they fare at Download? Dp goes every year with his family and he's keen to take the dd's at some point. Dd1 is 3 next month but I'm guessing that's too young

I've taken mine to Greenbelt several times - and they go off and do their own thing.
