12/13 year old and vaping

My DS has started vaping. Not with nicotine but with the oils flavoured like apple or butterscotch. He says he's researched it and it's not bad for him. As it is not harmful, I don't see why I should reasonably ban it - Id rather he told me what he was up to rather than doing it elsewhere. What do you think? Do you think it leads into anything else?

I was really upset my daughter came home with a vapor from one of her friends, of which she intended to keep using. Only being 12yrs old I said she was too young, but, as I see on this thread its now very common among that age group, i find this very worrying.

Why don't you confiscate his vape and tell him that if he ever so much as goes near one ever again that you will crush his phone under your car wheels?

I am not sure what effects vaping has on children,,but more than likely,it will lead to ciggs and maybe weed later on, You know, like some kids in groups, like to look cool as they say,, and maybe chat about trying something new later etc.. I did say some children though.and not all children.

I might be going against the grain here, but it would be an absolutely no way from me.

Not a steaming chance.

Kids are doing it because it's a version of smoking that they think they can get away with more easily. They don't do it because 'it tastes nice' - if they want something that tastes nice they can have a packet of sweets.

It's not cool, the health benefits are uncertain, and it's not necessary. There's zero reason for him to be doing it other than to fit in, and there are better ways of going about that goal.

And at 12 / 13, it's great that you want to encourage him to talk to you about what he's doing rather than hiding it away, but he's still a child.

I'm all for kids having a voice and a sense of autonomy, AND they also still need to know that you're the adult, you do have a sense of what's best for them, and that you'll keep them safe by saying 'no' to things like this, even if they don't like it. That sense of security is just as vital as their ability to make choices for themselves.

DD told me that a girl in her secondary school got caught vaping in the playground and has been excluded - it followed on from various other behavioural incidents I gather, but this was the final straw.

So is this the new form of alcopops then? Make something taste like sweets, market it as being cool, bingo you have all the teens lining up 🙄

Mary I join..... Literally just walked in on my 12 year old daughter and her friend trying this- apparently bought from Camden market. She and her friend were bricking it.....I acted like I was really shocked and she looked really shaken. I've confiscated the offending item now. I hope I acted in a way that didn't make her think 'up yours, I'll do what I want' or ' I must be better at hiding things'. I'm a bit worried now about how I reacted.

what I can do is cause problems when they're developing and especially at that age it's bad for only because effect that can cause pneumonia that can cause them to develop lung problems but that's because they're still growing myself I vape only because it I've tried quitting smoking cigarettes my girlfriend got me to do it and it does help and I do have less coughing problems but the thing is is about that is I use only clean oil there's probably a lot of propylene glycol which is bad to inhale actually being vaporized as well as that it's harmful vegetable glycerin is really safe alternative that you can flavor yourself and you have no worries by those unnatural chemicals that are also in there that they use for flavorings you can use your own you make your own wish me 10 times healthier than letting him vape anything any vape oil that's bought from the store that would just be my input and suggestion though in my opinion I guess

Rip the piss out of them. Tell them they look like pillocks and would they like a fedora and a stick-on neck beard for christmas?
