GCSE's over - sick of it already

My DS has one last exam on Monday morning (nothing this week) then it's finished, exams over and weeks of....nothing!

I have no biscuits, crisps or cake left (spent £60 on Saturday on food) I came home today to the kitchen looking like a bomb site. He doesn't get up till midday. Then goes out with his mates and they end up back here.

He has a Saturday job but hasn't managed to get anything else. He tried one pub then gave up.

We're away for 10 days at the start of the hols then he's away with his dad for the last week. College starts in September.

I don't know if I can stand him being at home doing nothing. I've asked him to help out, but he can't be bothered basically. He's hoovered up once!

My DS's last exam was last Friday.

Getting up a midday is not too bad. DS's record is 2pm.
He has NO job, and says he's not getting a summer job because the only jobs around for his age group are "a piss-take" and he does nothing around the house to help.

We have no holiday planned due to running our own business and we can't seem to find the time.

He went on a taster day for college today (5 blissful hours) but that's it until September.

I don't know how I'm going to put up with this......

My electricity bill will be through the roof as he is on his X box all day and has 30 minute showers!

I'm not buying any more food!

Me too ! DD has to be woken at midday, and dragged from a fetid room. Doesnt go to bed until 2am, spends all day gaming in a darkened room. Only showers if forced to.
I am taking this as an opportunity to clean out the freezer ( basically feeding him on everything that should be thrown away).
Seriously thinking about that NCS thing......

Yay - I have found my fellow kinsmen!
DS finished last Friday. He's barely surfaced before midday and then just grunts how tired he is.
He has a weekend paper-round (£8) and practically had another weekend job handed to him on a plate 'but football's on'.
He stinks to high heaven too.
September is an age away

The only food left in the house is bread, cheese, bacon, beans, crackers.

Fruit (won't touch that) and a few bags of crisps. There are no treats left.

His college is 8 miles away in the town his dad lives in. There is talk of him staying there during the week, we shall see! But that's in September which is a loooooong time away!

Although they do your head in lazing around, up all night and asleep until mid afternoon, I think I prefer this to the constant term time stress of nagging about being up in time, not being late, lack of work etc. Dd finished AS exams before half term and had 3 weeks off before having to go back to 6th form for 2 weeks this term so I've just had a reminder of what to expect again in September.
Ds is back from uni for the summer and is just as bad, gaming till all hours and asleep till the afternoon

Never thought about the electricity on the Xbox good point my ds last GCSE last fri, gamed right through exams and now on it every waking hour.

Luckily he has a week of work experience next week, then just one week home gaming, then away for 3 and a half weeks thank the Lord on an organised holiday without us!

I'm already worrying about next summer....

DS1 finished his GCSEs days ago. Although he is still living in our house, he is in a completely different time zone to the rest of us, who are still having to keep office/school hours.

Just a thought - since I'm in the same boat - what about finding about local NCS (National Citizens Service)? I have a DS and have just signed her up for 2 weeks in the summer to do something useful. May not be too late to apply? Good luck everyone!

You are not alone. This is my life. Combined with trying to work from home, so I can't turn the internet off to flush him out of his room. I don't mind the sleeping in late, I wouldn't mind the friends coming round at all (they are nice boys) but I do mind the spending all day in isolation on computer/XBox - which is all he's done since his last exam!
Roll on September...

No joy turning off the wifi - DD is too smart and can find a way to turn it back on! I need to find out how to change the password - and then be able to change it back to the 'right one' from time to time. "Oh, is the internet not working - oh dear - have you put in the right password...?"

Why are you dragging your teens out of bed? My DS is only 13 and occasionally spends all day in bed on his computer. Where's the harm in it? I used to go to bed at 5 or 6 am and get up at 3 or 4 pm in the holidays at that age! They've been through a very stressful time. Let them chill out and do whatever they want for a while!

DS admits he's revised for about 5 minutes.

Lying in bed all day isn't really what I want my kids to do, but if you're ok with that them that's fine.

My DS has a bedroom that is a bio- hazard zone. His friends use my house like a youth club, and although happy and polite I don't always want 3 lads sat in my kitchen eating my biscuits.

Sounds like normal teenage behaviour to me

All I ask for the next few weeks is that mine does the chores I leave for him, doesn't disturb the workers of the house late at night and if he wants money to spend he will have to get a job

As per usual, no back chat and actual piss taking is tolerated. Other than that, I have enough stuff going on in my own life than be futilely trying to micromanage a reluctant teenager

They will have to step back up soon enough

Yes my dc's are the same. On a totally different time zone.
Its a nice idea mumwithteens20 about National Citizens Service but there is no way on earth that dd17 would entertain anything like that. She reckons its for "do gooders and swots" and she would rather chill . It would also require her to get up in the mornings. I give up!
