irregular periods should i be worried??

So my daughter, aged 14 got her period last year in November, then in December she didnt get her period, so i thought that was normal because I know teens can start their period off really irregularly, and so she got her period again in January, and its been almost 4 months since January -its almost may and her third period has not come yet- and her period has not come yet.. i ready that its normal for the second time to be irregular, but is it normal for the third time.to be irregular too? Ive read in some articles that my daughter may have a problem?? Im not extremely worried because it hasnt been very long, but I want to know when I should be worried about it. Thanks!

My periods were never regular, I have PCOS. I don't know if your daughter is too young for any kind of diagnosis though. Has she any of the other symptoms (weight problems, excess hair)?

My daughter was a late starting at nearly 15. She was also very irregular at first and they became even more infrequent at 16 . We put it down to exam stress and then significant weight loss during an active summer job. She saw the GP at 17 and had blood tests which showed a hormone imbalance. GP isn't worried but has suggested starting the pill mainly because when she does have a period they are quite heavy and can last for weeks.
Can you phone the GP or school nurse for advice?

Her weight has been very stable, and she says that she has no symptoms and she feels normal. I dont know if it males any difference, but shes 160cm tall and weighs 45kg. I've also read that some girl's periods can come a year later, so.im wondering if I should take her to the doctor, not.

Should I wait until next year to see what happens or should I go to the doctor now?

You need to know at what age and how long after her first period they would consider beginning investigations.
I would think there is no point worrying your daughter if the GP wants to wait and see if things change. However if your daughter is already worried then take her . Can you request a telephone consultation at your doctors?

I can't remember how mine were and I started at 14, but I don't think I'd worry for the first year.

It depends on her bone structure, but I've been that weight most of my life.

My periods were never regular as a teenager. My mum worried about it a lot. I have pcos, it was diagnosed when I was 28.

I'd leave it a year or so before worrying about it unless she has other symptoms. Tbh, it's great not having periods, especially as a teenager.

this says allow a year for it to become regular, which is what I remember was said when I was a teen.

DD started end Aug last year at just 13, had one more end Sept and then nothing til Jan. Since then she's been regular although a bit later this month so far!

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it unless it's causing your DD distress. I got my period at 11. I'm 24 now and they're still not regular. I went through every check up under the sun and according to several doctors I'm totally healthy, nothing untoward going on down there, just how my body is.

How does your daughter feel about it? It can take months/years for period to settle down into a rhythm. If it's really bothering her then I'd maybe take her to the doctors to rule anything out. If it's not then I would leave it. It's it's a problem when she's a bit older then usually the first thing they look into is a contraceptive pill that could (doesn't always work) make her periods a bit more predictable. Think it's a bit too early to be looking into that though.

My daughter isn't that worried but her period, when it came always comes on the fourth, so the day it comes is always the same, just that the months when it comes is irregular. Also she finally got her period again last month in May, but this time it was very short and not very blood like. It was watery? Im hoping it comes again this month.

I had my first period in Y9, then didn't have another one for a year, and it was several months after the second that I had my third. They were always really light as a teenager too. As an adult they were never regular unless I was on the pill so we thought it would take me ages to get pregnant when we started trying for a baby but each time I got pregnant almost immediately- the last time at 39 - so it had zero effect on my longterm fertility

My poor sister had heavy periods which came exactly four weeks apart and she had such bad period pain she'd throw up so I was glad my experience was so different
