Anyone else got a permanently ravenous teenager?

What time do you feed them?
my ds is so hungry after school that he can eat almost a whole box of cereal.
Then when it comes to his dinner/supper he's often no longer hungry enough to eat properly.

I have three. Their school day finishes early, so they get in around 3 most days. Small snack then (piece of fruit, toast, cereal bar), then tea before evening clubs. I never cease to be amazed at their ability to make food disappear.

My ds refuses to have less than an absolute ton of food at 4. The trouble is that leaves him not ravenous for proper dinner and yet it's too early to feed him properly... !

Feed him a proper meal at 4? That is on the presumption you don't work so are at home early enough to start cooking

If you do work could have last night's food heated up and then have a snack later on if he's hungry

I've just started having to do a very early tea for mine. He's 12, eats a good lunch at school but arrives home 'starving'.

DS has been known to eat up to 6 meals a day - breakfast, at break at school, then again at lunch, a sandwich at 4pm, dinner and then another sandwich or snack at bedtime.

I keep leftovers in the fridge to offer him, or otherwise he usually makes a peanut butter sandwich or has crackers and cheese, and sometimes some fruit with it. Bread and fruit are basically unrationed and he can help himself whenever.

He's also been known to stop at the shops on the way home from school and buy himself a six pack of apple pies and eat them all, but I'm not sure I'm recommending that as a healthy diet . He's still skinny though. Doesn't have a big stomach so can't eat huge meals, but clearly needs the calories for growing fast.

Maybe eat a little later as a family, so he can snack at 4pm and be hungry again by, say, 7pm?

No but I have a permanently ravenous 6 year old, I can't imagine what he'll be like as a teenager! What time do you eat you tea? DS gets home at 3 so has a big snack (usually ham sandwich, cheese or yoghurt and a couple of biscuits) then tea at 6 so snack at 4 then tea at 7 might work for you.

Are you sure he's not thirsty my two ravenous teens 15 & 13 have a drink and a snack when they get in from school then depending on what day and what clubs are on they have tea at either 4.30 or 6pm more often than not their hunger is thirst as they really don't drink enough when they're at school like today both are "starving" and yet both bottles of drink have come home as full as I sent them this morning and they've both just downed a large glass of squash

Yup! DD nearly 14 and is always hungry after school. She eats when she gets in at 4.30, usually: veggies/ryvita & humous, a fruit and a biscuit or crisps. Then two or so hours later she'll eat a full dinner (adult portion). She's skinny as anything!!

Yes, DS16 can eat a box of cereal in 2 days.

Will eat a big dinner at 6.30 and be back in the kitchen at 8pm claiming he is hungry and rifling cupboards.
He eats tons of bread,bagels, fruit, cereals, yoghurt.
He likes Muller rice and I buy the 6 packs.

I feed ds at 4 then a snack later, when I say snack I'm talking about egg on toast, toasties or huge sandwich!!

I have resorted to having tea on the table for the eldest the minute she walks in, or she will head straight for the crap and then not be fully hungry for her dinner. It pisses me off most that I can have spent the best part of 2 hours preparing a culinary delight, lol, and if I don't get to her before the biscuit tin does I may as well not have bothered.

The youngest heads straight to the shop from school and I've given up asking if wouldn't mind not. She usually has dinner heated up early evening. That pisses me off as well.
