holiday ideas for teenage boys?

this is the first year ds2 is coming on holiday with us without ds1, who is going with pals eekk

ds is 15, can anyone recommend a hotel/resort/area thats not wild, we're q pretty quiet bunch, dont really drink, not into hotel entertainment, will chat but not party animals at all......ds is very sporty, doesnt like beaches or the sea!!, likes to visit big cities

we've done Barcelona, can anyone recommend anywhere else, for a week this summer?

I think he'll be a bit bored without ds1 so anywhere with teenage boys hopefully would be great

My DS does not like beaches or sea either! We had a successful trip to Greece for ancient history - went to non party area of Kos but there are other options. Berlin is a great city and we all found the part of Germany that used to be in the East interesting (DS likes all history) -we spent a good week in the Hartz mountains. Other successes were Bruges and Madeira, where we struck very lucky as much of the island was taken over by an RAC motor rally.
Another option that kept 3 Dteenagers happy was a French gite - we used one on a converted farm so there were several sites grouped together. The family who owned it were ex pat British who had teenagers who had local friends - outcome was a great gathering of French and English teenagers who just hung out together!

yes meeting other teens will make or break the holiday I think

We are going to Club la Santa Lanzarote. It's basically a sports resort. We are going slightly out of school holidays though, so not sure if you could swing it for £1200 in peak.

If you're happy to go closer to home try Loch Tay or Aviemore with water sports, off road cycling (not crazy mountain biking but a way to get round the countryside on a bike). Aviemore has high ropes, there's endless walking, good places to eat, as many outdoor sports as you can think of. Some of the cottages have free membership of the local timeshare which has pool, golf and other indoor stuff. We went there for several years as it really worked for us - and no worries about airports. We're off to Loch Tay this summer with DS 1&2 aged 19&16.

club la santa is out of our price range unfortunately

Berlin was a success for us recently but we did a long weekend. Our teen DS is 13 and did a parkour activity program there with parkourOne its something he is into and it might combine your DS's sporty yet city focused interests.

My 15yo is being "borrowed" by his friend's family for exactly thus reason this summer. Is their a friend you could take?

We've done some great family cactivity holidays with Explore that are a good mix of activities and culture and mean there are other kids around.

Look at Duinrell in The Netherlands. Roller coasters, water slides, lots of cycling, day trips to Amsterdam, Den Hague, Leiden etc. my DC younger but it seemed a cool place for teenagers to hang out.

Our dc are going (for the 3rd time) to a sports camp in Croatia. It's in english and there are kids from many different countries but they all speak English. They go for 2 weeks and each week choose 6 different activities (archery, sailing, rugby, snorkeling, dance etc etc) and the 2nd week they choose 6 different ones. There's entertainment I the evenings etc etc. My kids have all loved it (they wouldn't be going back 3 times if they didnt) and best bit is, this year dd is old enough to go so we will have our first ever child free holiday

The first time we dropped them off and we git the overnight ferry to Italy and spent 10 days there and 4 in Croatia. Then we spent 1 week on the Islands and the 2nd week in Split. This year we are going to a gluten free wellness hotel quite nearby (I have coeliac disease do this is an amazing luxury for me - thanks dh!)

I can highly recommend it. Happy kids. Happy parents it's called Camp California if anyone is tempted. Dc are 16, 15, 12 and 7 btw

we cant afford to borrow a friend and TBH I cant be bothered looking after another kid! though I can see the advantages

Lots of people will pay for their own kid to holiday with another family (I certainly have done). I find kids are generally less trouble not more when they have a friend with them.

I recomend the campsite Ty Nadan in France. Quad biking, horse riding, huge zip slides, peddle boats, paint balling. Lots of family fun!
