Are Dr Martens worth the money

My DD1 (14) is in need of her third pair of school shoes this year. I don't know how she does it but she ruins shoes in no time. I have looked on the Dr Martens website but they are £95 for a pair.

Is it worth that much or am I better off buying more cheaper pairs? If they will last a whole year I don't mind but if I am buying another pair in September it is going to be expensive!

They last forever, she will grow out of them before they get ruined.
Amazon warehouse are good for cheap ones.

I think her feet have stopped growing now, well she has been the same size for a couple of years and she isn't getting any taller. Hopefully that means these could last her until she is 16 Grin

I had a pair of DMs for school when I was 14.

My Mum removed them from my feet when I was 21 and home from uni for the weekend because they had no tread left and the soles were shiny, so she declared them dangerous! Grin

They were apart from shiny soles still in perfect nick. I loved those shoes. Wore them nearly every day.

You can get them from outlet stores etc though, so no need to pay the £95.

I did order some a few days ago and thought I had got a great deal at only £40, until they turned up this morning and they were the tiniest Dr Martens I have ever seen Grin

I bought my DS a pair of DM shoes around Easter 2014 when he was 15. He has worn them pretty much every day and they still look new. Without a doubt the best value shoes I have ever bought for him.

They are almost as old as she is and still going strong

I wore DMs for school in fifth form, showing my age and then lived in them at uni, same pair never wore anything else. Eventually bought myself a pair of cherry red boots once I graduated still have them and wear them occasionally 20 years later.
Well worth the cost, but thick socks and a bit of perseverance required until feet get used to them.

Oh goodness they're worth more than their money I think!

My DH has problems with his feet, when we first met could barely walk. I insisted on new shoes when he started hospital treatment... A local shoe shop suggested DMs as they're one of the few that make a style that wont upset all the issues and can hold his insoles.

Combine a funny walk, bad feet and gravel yards at work and each pair lasts a year and a half in good nick. Then he buys himself a new set and keeps the old ones for scruffs... Usually they're still okay when the newer pair is ready to become scruffs!

My mum bought me DMs when I was 15. They finally wore out (the leather went, the soles were still ok) last year. I'm 34.

DD2 - has a calf length pair and a low ankle boot type pair. They always look good and last for years. Go for it.

I have a pair of DMs that is coming up to 19 years and I still wear it. Definitely worth the money.

DS1 has docs for school. He walks to school and I wanted him in a decent pair of shoes. They are well worth the money imho.

When you have stopped growing DMs are cheap. I have 4 pairs on rotation, the oldest is 10 years old. At £100 they work out £10/year and have many years left in them. You can't get cheaper shoes when you work it out like that.

I thought I was ordering a large size 5 but a small size 5 turned up. They were very cute but even DD3 is a size 10 now.

I have just ordered the pair off ebay for £50, but in Navy not black Blush

I think I had some when I was in year 5 (yep I am that old as well) but I can't remember how much they cost.

Thank you all, hopefully this will be an end to the 4+ pairs of school shoes a year!

Yes, def worth it once feet have stopped growing.

Mind you, my new ones really really hurt when I first got them. They hurt right over the top of my foot. I didn't remember that from when I was younger. I had to do the whole putting wax on and wearing them for short periods of time each day and gradually building it up. I can now do a day in them but my the top of my feet feel a bit tender afterwards. Not sure I could wear them all day every day, even though I've worn them most weekends since October!

I do have spectacularly dodgy feet when it comes to shoes and I do know, however, once they are properly worn in they become the most comfortable shoes ever.

13y DD's are the canvas flowery ones and they have been really comfortable from the start btw.
