Please guide me through my dd`s uni application/fees etc

I feel so bogged down with life atm I cannot seem to concentrate on all the things I should be. My worry is I don't fully understand all the procedure for my dd going to uni. She has done her personal statement and that's been sent off, she has applied to three unis, all local within 25 miles and paid a fee of £23. What happens next? I am worried about the finances, been told her course fees will be £9000 a year, 3 years. She is doing a BA in Fine Art. All I know is the finance has to be applied for or sorted by May. I feel so ignorant as I don't know how to go about it all. Having three the same age, all doing different things an having a very ill dh is piling up on me. Dh is in remission from cancer, stage 4 but has also got Parkinsons which has greatly affected his mobility. Feel exhausted thinking about everyone! Grateful for any advice. Thank you. x

Hi. I didn't have a clue last year when applying for ds's student loan. I ended up submitting it on the actual deadline day as I was relying on ds keeping me informed about everything. (He is very laid back).

Anyhow, its not as scary as it seems. You can do it online and they just want to know basic details of the applicant and if you are applying for maintenance loan, details of parental income etc. It is fairly straightforward and any problems I found the student finance people very helpful. They contact you/dd if there are any problems with the application as well. I think you have to put down the first choice of uni so you may have to wait till dd gets her offers first.

Its not as bad as it seems and if I can do it anyone can but do it sooner rather than later so you don't end up in a last minute panic like me.

Re the finance for 16/17, don't think applications open yet, but suspect it will be soon. IIRC DD applied in Feb/Mar last year.

oh thank you both........all seems to be happening quickly, her personal statement only went in on the 6th, she has her first interview next Weds at her first choice uni!! He brother passed his driving theory this morning and her other brother has just arrived home for the w/end from Harrogate (Army) as its my dh birthday on Sunday............all go atm!

As Curious said, its not as bad as you think so don't worry and there is plenty of help if you need it.

Don't forget to apply for accommodation if your dd is moving out. Ds forgot to apply for his so we had a mad rush to get it sorted in august!

My DS is off uni in September so I understand how overwhelming it is.

As far as finance is concern it's best to apply as soon as you can as if there are any problems they are sorted out sooner rather than later. I think it opens in February so we are aiming to keep checking. Your DD starts the application off and then you add your income. Not sure but I think there's an option to print off your forms and post them if you don't want her knowing income.

The course fees are paid by the tuition fee part of the loan and are not repayable until the course finishes and they earn over a certain amount so we do not have to find that upfront.

Some of the uni websites are very good and UCAS too. I was lucky that my DS required mum's taxi to open days so I managed to pick up leaflets and ask questions. My DS has been known to answer any queries I have!

Will she be moving out or stopping at home? Second checking out the higher education section her too

Well done to DS for passing the theory. My DS has managed to fail it twice so far.
