DD 17 devastated - university rejection

She has applied to two unis that do the course she wants and heard back from Bristol today that she's been refused a place as her application wasn't strong enough :( her teacher had gone over her application with her and I read her personal statement which was really good.

She's really upset. I've told her to wait until she hears back from the other one until panicking but without a degree she can't do the job she wants.

Help me with words of wisdom please!

The London Ambulance Service offer a 5 year Paramedic course. And you get paid!

N3wYear2016 · 17/01/2016 21:37

Has she thought about applying to Scotland or Wales ?
I think you can apply for 3 of each

Also I heard recently that people are applying to Dutch, Spanish etc unis due to the cost being cheaper

In my area community first responders are volunteers who are not paid. They cover 24x7x365 on a rota

Need clean driving license

Training, a logo responder car and equipment are provided

However, I believe that at a young age, there may be issues with insurance, especially the car insurance

All are older people with experience 30+

I would recommend joining St Johns Ambulance or similar organisation & get some hands on experience

I just thought I'd up this with some good news.

DD has been offered a place at Suffolk starting in February next year. Got the email this morning and she's over the moon!!

Fabulous news. Well done your dd!

Gizlotsmum · 05/04/2016 11:25

If she doesn't get the second place offer ( or even if she does) I would ask what they felt was lacking from her application. She can then either go through clearing and maybe get a place or take a year out and strengthen the bits they viewed as weak and reapply. Big hugs it's tough

My son has been offered his first place but decided not to go at all!!

A little frustrating.

Excellent news coffee! I'm really.pleased for her.

sorry I was a lurker on this thread in case you are wondering who I am - I remember thinking what a shame if she could train to be a paramedic and how sad that enthusiastic people couldnt do it.

chrisrobin · 05/04/2016 11:31

Fantastic! Well done to your DD.

coffeeisnectar · 06/04/2016 11:29

Thanks all! She's so thrilled and now has the motivation to make the final push to get the results she needs in her A levels.

She's got a day off work today and is off to Sprinkles with two of her friends. I think she needs this. It's either school or work all the time. No-one can sustain that without some fun time right?

I am so relived and pleased for her. This will be her chance to follow her dream.
