Teens earning money to pay for school trips

My son has an expensive school cricket trip to Grenada…£2000. Any ideas on how he can raise the money himself? I want to encourage financial responsibility and independence.

Baby sitting, car washing, paper round, dog walking, 'odd jobs', gardening? Selling old stuff on ebay.

He could ask friends/neighbours if they need any help - eg: I am about to clear out my garage and it would be useful to have a youngish person to help me move stuff, sort it and help me get it to the tip etc.

I know a youngster recently who raised £3.5k to go to Scout Jamboree this year - mainly by doing odd jobs for people.

How old is he? Can he get a job? Paper round etc? When I was at school a few friends worked picking fruit and vegetables at the weekend.

How old is he? I paid for a skiing trip myself in sixth form through waitressing and a lot of babysitting (which was easy money as I got my studying done too) but obviously age is a factor.

My daughter is currently trying to raise funds for a trip to the Philippines.

Although there have been a couple of school arranged sponsored events we have a small family and circle of friends who cannot be expected to subsidise her trip no matter that it is for a good cause.

What has worked best for her is car boot sales. Although I have to drag myself out of bed at the crack of dawn, she is the one who has to sort through the stuff and display it on the day. She's not that confident yet with her sales patter but she's getting more confident.

She's also sold her old DS and games via eBay and one of those game exchange places.

Selling stuff is a good idea - car boots or E-bay, or both.
Depending on how old, the working can help (although probably a much lower rate of income than selling stuff).

I don't think you can ask other people to fund what is, in effect a fancy holiday, but can only expect money from people if you are doing something that helps them - be that babysitting, gardening, or - something I'd pay for - selling stuff for me on e-bay or at car boots.... I'd certainly pay a goodly % of what came in for someone to help me declutter like that. Because they were helping me rather than in a sort of 'sponsorship' way.
