My ds1's gf has a virtual baby

She has a baby home for the weekend. ds is 15 and his gf is 14 and they have been going out since April.

They are out babysitting and gf is staying with us and he is "helping" her with the baby.

Hope it is up half the night and they get a small taste of what having babies is like lol.

Anyone elses children had one home?

no, but I passed a lot of wee lassies taking theirs home today.
They looked at dd asleep in her pram and said "ooh wish I had a real one!"
was tempted to let them take her overnight...that'll teach 'em!!!

lol Macdog. I have a 2 yr old and a 15 week old too.if i wasn't bfing the lo i would make them babysit for me too.God i'm a cow at times haha

Yes, my foster daughter is studying Health and Social Care and we had a virtual baby home for a night last year as part of her assessment! It was set on the 'sick baby' setting by mistake so was inconsolable and kept us all awake. I've never known her so keen to get to college as she was that morning, she couldn't wait to give it back

Does the virtual baby respond to bf? Does it calm down with co-sleeping or being carried about?

Hi bctmum, as it's basically an electronic device, it responds to a very limited number of things - nappy changing (there's a sensor in the nappy), being fed (bottle - sensor again), being held, rocked. I think we had a mid-range type so some are more sophisticated and respond to more, and some are less sophisticated. I found it all rather peculiar as my extensive repertoire of how to soothe a crying baby was not very effective at all! I even sang to it! There's also some sort of recording device that monitors things like how gently the baby is held, how frequently it's picked up, whether anything covers its face etc. Also, there's a range of settings (easy, medium, demanding, sick) programmable by the tutor.

Sounds scary - shame that it only responds to a bottle though as bf could be a good topic to talk about and get young mums aware of bf issues.

They are designed primarily as a prophylactic so are probably intended to be a bit scary. They do coo and gurgle though.

They don't wind their little fingers arounds the collar of your clothes though, or mouth your neck, or bite your nose, or squeal with laughter as you pinch their fat little thighs and say "Pinchy bum, pinchy bum!", or land mouth first on your chicken sandwich and come up for air, triumphantly waving a crust like a portly caveman waving a club.

So they aren't real. Because we all know that that makes up for the screamy bits.

Hi all

Well my ds and his gf survived Friday night with their "baby". Was up once for it's bottle,took bout half an hour to feed but screamed for ages as she had lots of wind lol.

I made bacon roll on Sat morning but his gf didn't manage hers cos she had to feed baby again.Altogether now aawwwww diddums.

My lo however slept thru all Friday night and while i had my bacon roll.Result!!!

Waiting for him to come home and report how many times she woke on Sat night.

bctmum she fed her baby while i fed my 14 week old bf dd,took me 10 mins compared to her half hour.I did point that fact out to her.Just in case they ever have a real one down the line.
