taxis/minicabs - what age to take alone? (London)

I have a 13 yr old DS and 11 yr old DD. Both are busy with activities that run into the evening plus the occasional party on the weekend. At what age is it considered ok for them to take a taxi or minicab without an adult? Is is better to take a black cab eg via Hailo, or an Uber cab, or splash out on Addison Lee...

I'm not in London but last year i enquired about my DD and her friends getting a taxi to school. The taxi company told me that they couldn't take unaccompanied children under 14 years old. I don't know if this was because their drivers weren't CRB checked?

Find out which taxi company has the contract for the local schools, they will have specific drivers who are CRB checked. I live in a rural area and kids from outlying farms get provided with taxis to get to school. Some kids going for specific classes are transferred between schools by taxi as well.
