Worried about DS's future - any ideas about IT courses?

DS(17) has started an ITC level 2 course hoping to learn coding and other skills in order to go on to working in IT.
The course he is on is not pushing him at all, it's various MS office stuff which he already knows. He is frustrated and bored by it and I'm worried. The college said even if they put him up to level 3 it would be more of the same.

He only has an English GCSE at C and Maths at D. He has ADHD and he has worked hard to get this far. He is bright and capable of far more but his lack of qualifications are preventing him from getting an apprenticeship.

I'm really worried that he will completely fall through the net. I can't afford for him to be NEET, I'm a lone parent working freelance.

Does anyone have any hope or ideas for me?

Have you looked at the btec engineering/electronics courses? - Can't remember which course it was, but last year one of my students went on to do one at another college which was all about the inside workings of a computer. May be more up your ds's street than a word processing type approach

That sounds just the thing.
I will try to find one nearby -though my success at career advice seems to be foundering already.

coding in the UK is a non starter - most coding jobs are outsourced now to India.

Can he go back and re-do his GCSE Math - most jobs require a C in both Engish and Math now.

all under 18s have to study english and maths now if they haven't got a pass at A*-C so yes wherever he goes he will be doing his maths
