I think my 13 yr old DD is smoking

I came home this evening from work and could smell cigarette smoke from the back garden. My neighbours don't smoke. I entered the house & went to use the downstairs loo and couldn't breath for the deodorant fumes. Shortly after I went into the kids lounge and my DD's school bag was wide open with a lighter visible in the front pocket.
I haven't caught her in the act so not sure how to approach it.
She recently took an overdose of paracetamol because she was grounded, so everyone is handling her with care.
Any thoughts how to deal with this one mums?

Mine started at 15 and I cant bear it and have no advice and can do nothing about it myself. Sorry, just didnt want to read and run.

Thanks anyway. Kind of a relief that I'm not alone with not knowing what to do

My DS1 started at about that age. Denied it, lied, denied it some more. There was nothing I could actually do about it.I grounded him, stopped pocket money etc,but nothing worked

In the end it was girlfriend pressure that stopped him. I suspect he has the odd one at his mates but he is not allowed to smoke with his GF... and rarely smells of it now:)

Thanks. Suspicions were confirmed that same night. Caught smoking out of her window. Grounded and phone confiscated with the strong disappointment talk.
I'll just have to sit tight and hope she realises sooner rather than later xx

Ask her not to smoke for a week and be around smelly smokers. Worked for me although I was 17 and more sensible.
