Mum won't let me have an arc welder

I am a 15 year old boy living in rural Devon UK and wish to have a arc welder. But my Mum says it is too dangerous if I have been properly trained. I have already done some arc welding with a neighbor so has my Dad. I have also looked for a course for arc welding but there all aimed at people who wish to become professionals and too expensive.
How can I persuade my Mum and Dad to allow me to buy an arc welder?

Hi All, this is the mum of Mr JJ - thanks so much! You made us laugh so much - I nearly fell off my chair, particularly about me breaking up under the pester power!

Also, thank you for encouraging my DS for a career in the literary world. I too, noticed that his spelling seems to have improved.

Much good info about arc welding - not quite to the liking for DS but I hope he'll understand.

Given my amazingly slack set up neighbours have managed to borrow DH arch welder and return with it and them in one piece.
I don't see why not.

I'd be proud of having such an eloquent 15 year old son, well done OP and OP's mum

Dorset rural skills in Blandford do a day course for £140. Would that be more attainable?

Well I've learnt something! I didn't know flashdance was a film about a welder. I thought it was just a music video and she danced around as a welder for no apparent reason. Every day a school day.

Mum and son, you're both lovely.

Fabulous.

MrJJ sounds much too good to risk! I have never set fire to a cob barn with an arc welder but I did set fire to the stairs with a blowtorch and in retrospect £375 not to have done would have been cheap at the price.

Possibly my fave thread of the week

"but I did set fire to the stairs with a blowtorch "

Yeah, well, I once burnt my lip on a marshmallow.
