Ok sorry a bit far fetched but sometimes......
Where to get a 16 y/o's prom dress from?!?!?! She is doing her best to keep the price low and only really considering dresses you send your measurements off to China for which I know come back nothing like the pictures. My friend did this for her wedding dress and fortunately could afford to buy another one, I definitely can not.
She has tried monsoon, m&s, debenhams and asos and says nothing is right. She wants long and elegant and not at all big fat gypsy wedding. Probably in a cream colour to match her date's burgundy suit.
Any tips on places you might have got your dd's? I dont have time to sit and trawl the net what with being a single parent and working full time so on the scrounge for some advice.

Right shes calling me to look at another one.... argh!

charity shop, ebay or facebook.

why bother with a new dress, when you can get a bargain one that has only been worn once and she will only wear once?

she'll probably get drink or worse thrown over it so don't spend too much.

Another vote for Quiz - they had loads of choice - think we paid £70 last year.

tinytalker · 06/03/2014 21:07

We got this one from Hong Kong from EBay - £22.50!!!!!!

It is stunning, she had her prom on Valentines Day and she looked amazing. The dress quality was very good and she was one of the only ones in red so felt special.

Iaminvisible I got my bridesmaids' dresses from SexyHer. The shop is just near me. They are lovely about £80 each.

promschmom · 08/03/2014 17:57

Please can someone tell me more about dresses from China? I'd never heard of this before. Do you go to ebay? anyone got a link to a website they'e used and been happy with? DD's got a prom coming up, she is very petite and despite several trips round the shops we've found nothing that fits her, everything is too big. Never shop from internet normally because always assume nothing will fit her. Any advice or links please?!

KateSMumsnet · 08/03/2014 18:01

Ahh I fondly remember the agonies of prom dress shopping...

OP - you could always try asking the folks over in Style and Beauty, they tend to have excellent dress hunting skills Smile

tinytalker · 08/03/2014 21:33

promschmom - The one I linked was off E-Bay and was from Hong Kong. My dd is very petite and a size 6. Because the dress has a corset type tie at the back it could be pulled to fit tightly. We did have to have the length taken up but that was no big problem. Some of the sellers show a measurement chart so you can elect the best size, some even offer a made to measure service from your measurements. I can only vouch for the seller we ordered from, which was fine. I felt at £22 plus £5 p&p that I didn't have much to lose. Good luck x

we used this one ( i think it was a few years ago)

promschmom · 09/03/2014 11:29

Thanks mrsjay and tinytalker, will have a look at those. It should be something nice and enjoyable but it's turning into a slog because just nothing fits her!

Hire from wish want wear or Girlmeetsdress

WorrySighWorrySigh · 09/03/2014 13:08

DD got hers from one of the suppliers from China. It arrived on time and was exactly as described. DD took it to a local tailors to get about 3 miles taken off the bottom (DD is a short arse like the rest of the family).

The dress had a lace up bodice which with the adjustment to the length meant that it fitted perfectly.

Philoslothy · 09/03/2014 13:20

I was also going to suggest the selling pages on FB. Most have only been worn once!

Philoslothy · 09/03/2014 13:20

Hiring is also a good option, I use both the sites suggested above.

So sorry I ignored this, I couldnt get on for a couple of days?
We went to a Quiz in the next town to us and she found one that is beautiful but I am worried that she wont be the only one.... they are a big year group and we live in a very small place.
Also, though she is tiny, a 10 in one dress wouldnt do up and that was it, saturday shopping RUINED. I tried to explain that women learn to ignore sizes and buy what fits but Im sure I wouldnt have listened at her age either.

Shes seen a few more and you have given me loads of ideas here thank you so much. Ill sit down and go through them all in the week.

Glad I only have one daughter!
