My dd had to wait until she was 17 she had a bf for 1st 4 months of having them without any problems.

Please tell her that it will be worth it in the end. The time she will have her brace will be so short compared to the rest of her life. Sounds dramatic but I pulled out of having a brace at 17 and I regret it HUGELY. I wish my mum would have advised me better. I hate my teeth, have real issues with them and once i have saved enough will be having one at my old age!

I was offered a brace at 18, just before I was heading off to University. I wouldn't have had it on for long, but at the time I was more concerned with how I'd look in those first few months and about what my new boyfriend would think. Now, although my teeth aren't terrible, I can tell that a brace would have made a lot difference and I regret not taking the opportunity (now it'll cost me a bomb). I'd seriously advise her to go through with it at whatever age, she'll appreciate it in the long run. And I'm pretty sure braces don't affect having boyfriends and kissing [source: my friends].
