Marijuana logos on teen clothing

Anyone else got teen who keeps acquiring paraphernalia emblazoned with the 'leaf'? T shirts, caps, badge, jewellery. It seems to be everywhere - they even sell socks with the leaves all over on amazon.
What do you do - chuck in bin ? It's so alien to me and against my values.

Personally I'd ignore it unless they're going for an interview or visiting grandma. If you throw it away or forbid it, you risk making it more appealing I think.

wakemeupnow · 20/12/2013 08:51

I agree with flow...the more commercialised the leaf becomes the more it loses it's cool, taboo associations.... Hemp clothing also has an ecological side to it.

dexter73 · 20/12/2013 13:10

I used to wear it a t-shirt with a big leaf on it when I was younger because I thought it was cool. I didn't even smoke! I agree with flow4 - just ignore it.

Claybury · 20/12/2013 13:21

But he's doing it because he does smoke and is proud of it. So I guess what I'm upset about is not the clothes, it's the fact that he's so proud of the culture. I don't find the hacking cough particularly cool either.

How old is your ds?

insancerre · 20/12/2013 14:37

ignore it
it's normal teenage rebellion

Claybury · 20/12/2013 15:29

He's nearly 16
I haven't said much, but a teacher has confiscated an item.

I think he will probably grow of of it.

dexter73 · 20/12/2013 16:49

The weed t-shirts that is, not the smoking.

Totalpushova · 28/12/2013 21:38

My DS is always wearing stuff, it's not normally the leaf design but has Dope written over it or even pictures of rolling a spliff, he doesn't smoke weed and has no interest in doing so, it's just a fashion statement. He knows that there are times when it's inappropriate to wear his things, he rebels sometimes but in the end he sees sense. Does your DS smoke weed or just tobacco? My DS is into Shisha pipes that's his new thing, not ideal I know but better than the other options. Don't stress, give it 6months and he will be into something else

Ohfuckeryitsmarzipan · 28/12/2013 21:49

On the last day of school it was mufti day. One of our year 11s had a t shirt with cocaine and caviar proudly emblazoned on it.his form teacher said "oh mrs fuckery have you seen this?" I just went Hmm and said "oh that's delightful, hope you're wearing it on Christmas Day." Form tutor falls about.
But seriously, it really pisses me off. I love reminding the little feckers that they live in a small town in nth England, NOT South Central LA. where they would shit themselves

MaryzBoychildCheeszuzCrizpz · 29/12/2013 19:23

Let the teacher confiscate it.

I have ignored it at home, but I certainly wouldn't object to anyone confiscating it. And I have pointed out that he can't be surprised if people make assumptions about him, based on his clothes.

But (like you I suspect) what really bothers me is that the assumptions would be right Hmm. If he didn't smoke dope, I wouldn't give a shiney shite about the clothing [sigh].
