Does he need to go to hospital?

DS (16) went to a party at 9. At 10.40 a policeman called and said DS was ill and needed to be picked up. When I got there DS was drunk and vomiting but conscious and unhappy. The policeman said it was up to us whether we took him to hospital. We've brought him home and he's drunk lots of water and is talking and dozing so is it ok to not go?

If he is definitely only drunk and hasn't taken any drugs then I'd be tempted to just sit with him overnight as TBH there will be little they can do for him in A&E . If you think he has drunk sufficient to have alcohol poisoning or he's taken drugs as well then take him. Dare I ask why the police were involved ?

He doesn't seem druggy. The police came because lots of gate crashers arrived. Good thing they did I guess.

I dunno...the time scale seems very short ...

If he went sober at 9 pm and was so drunk 1hr and 40 mins later he was throwing up he's been really hammering into the vodka or similar OR he's taken some other intoxicant as well?

madwomanintheatt1c · 08/12/2013 01:04

He'll be fine. He did spectacularly well to get that wasted in an hour and half, do you know what they were doing? I'd be tempted to take a few photos of him, for a memento...

You can ground him forever tomorrow once he's sobered up.

With teen drunks, I usually prod them awake and make them walk up and down outside for some fresh air if there is any doubt as their level of consciousness.

If he's just pissed, and he's been sick (multiple times) and was only there for an hour or so before the cops arrived, I'm pretty certain he'll be ok.

Any of his mates know how much he managed to chug? Or are they all in the same state?

And ditto the up sympathy to the max tomorrow. You could get him a festive 'welcome to your first hangover' banner, and start banging pots in his bedroom around 7.30am?

Vodka and absinthe apparently. His eyes looked normal and he didn't smell of smoke, didn't seem 'high' so I hope not drugs too. DH sat up till 2am with him then we checked hourly.
Stupid!

Glad he is

Ok!
Well done for staying up so late with him.
I've got this all to come in a few years.
I'm currently trying to instill into my teens that no matter what time it is or what they've done. That can call us parents and we will help them.
My parents were always so drunk they didn't have a clue what I was up to.

Gosh I'm dreading this, my DS is 14 on Tuesday. So far alcohol hasn't been in the mix (long may it continue) he only has a bit of bucks fizz on Christmas Day.

Hope you're ok...

It's annoying! He's been sensible in the past, he doesn't go out much, went to another party 2 months ago (first one since the days of pass the parcel ones) and was fine. I'm just tired today and wondering where the spirits he drank came from!

If anything it possibly is good that he has got himself into this state, haha. It probably was the first time he had the opportunity to get really drunk and therefore decided to take it (hence getting into that state in 1.5 hours). Hopefully now he has done it once he will be abit more careful next time because now he knows why he shouldn't get that drunk. ;)

intheland · 08/12/2013 16:02

Yes I agree. He's never drunk spirits before and badly misjudged them. He's sorry! And feels dodgy too.

Sounds like he learnt something here!

Time to talk about drinking spirits on an empty stomach .......?
