Pubic Hair at 10.5 OH MY GOD!!

Ok ok so I am now calm, my DS and I have always had (so far) an open honest relationship. Yesterday we were talking about pubic hair and he said his has started growing. Without thinking I said "Really? can I see?" he showed me and sure enough he has got some hairs growing at the top of his willy. I welled up...what was that all about?

He just said "oh god your gonna start crying now because I'm growing up aren't you?" I know the hairs on his top lip have started getting darker although nothing to write home about,he had his first electric shave with his Step-Dad a few months ago, it was more of a laugh than anything else.

So why has this hit me like a ton of bricks? I feel silly for getting emotional about it....I know he has to grow up and I'm happy (in a non-weird way) that he showed/told me. I dunno, it just feels so sad. Anyone elses child start getting pubic hair at this age? Is this normal?

i would imagine its perfectly normal to be honest. Now is possibly a good time to buy him (and yourself) a book describing the changes he is going through

My dd1 (9) has a hint of fur under her arms. She's really pleased. I'm not upset, but she is the oldest of 4 so I still have little ones to dote on.

Jampots, he know's all about it, I come from a fairly liberal background. He's asked me everything from drugs, to STD's and I've always been honest. I'm never (well hardly ever)embarrassed about stuff, my parents never were with me. Although it took a while for me to get the wording right with his recent "what's a douche bag" question.

Like Tooticky's DD he's feeling pretty cool about it, and I'm sure he's deeloped a swagger to his walk.

It's me.....that's it...i just feel odd.

Biglips, that helps, because I was about 12 before anything even thought about happening to my body.....

I do understand how you feel max as my dd developed early and you feel a sense of loss at their childhood I guess.

Jampots, I think you are right and maybe that's it, I just dont want to admit it. I've only got one child, unlikely to have more and I guess this is it really.

my DP who got a full hairy chest, had his full hairy chest since he was 11!!!!!!!

I was 9 when I started my periods - and I was already starting to get hairs around my genitals and under my armpits. It sounds young, but I think it's within the normal range for starting puberty.

I've just mentioned this thread to dh. It's opened my eyes seeing the young ages that some of the kids' bodies are changing.
I was 12 when my periods began. DD1 has just turned 7 and looking at some of these postings I'm thinking OMG it could be only a couple years away - I should start thinking about talking to her about the facts of life a little more.
On the other hand, dh said that the ages of our children developing are probably getting younger and younger down to the fact it's probably down to the food we eat these days. So much hormonal crap is injected into livestock these days that's it's making it's way into the food chain, therefore, making chidren develop earlier in life.

I dont have a teenager or a daughter. But my husband is sitting here reading this with me and he said if we ever have a daughter and she starts developing breasts or pubic hair and she mentioned it to him. He said he would say thats nice dear, it just means youre growing up. He would never in a million years say thats lovely dear can i have a look or show me?! Theres no need to see things like that. Its too weird for us!
