As the title says, which mobile phone does your son/daughter have? Trying to get something reasonably current, so she'll be happy to use it for a year or two. Can you recommend any good contracts, or is it best PAYG?
At the moment my daughter has my husband's old one on PAYG and for the first time she has actually asked for something more modern. She says her friends have Samsung or HTC but they've had them a while, so not sure if they would go for something else if they had something more updated. She says none of her friends have Blackberrys, so not sure if their not fashionable here or something perhaps the older ones like.

ds 1 2 and 3 (15 17 19) all have a nokia payg £4.99 type job. I'm too stingy to pay for anything else especially as they don't need it. 
They use the computer to talk to friends and only text if its something like they've missed the train or football is off etc. They seem perfectly happy without all the techno clobber their friends have and have never once wanted to follow the crowd with the latest gismos.
dh and I have the same phones as the dc too
