Help anyone!!

My DS1 is about to go on his first high school holiday (to Germany) and I'm panicing like mad! I'm already planning to book a cheap flight and secretly "stalk" him [grin}

He is of course super cool about the whole thing and may text me if he gets a minute.

I'm really overprotective anyway, and am aware of this so try my best not to let him pick up on my anxiety. Just wondered how others had coped with this?

It will be properly organised and they won't be allowed to do anything they shouldn't (although I'm sure they'll try!!)

My dds have been abroad on school-organised trips and I also worried about it, but I had to tell myself that they were becoming young adults and I had to learn to "let go" a bit more (didn't stop me being worried though!)

Perhaps you can make me feel better about my two dds going on their first proper "adult" holiday tomorrow ... to Ayia Napa ...

Good grief- alone on hols with friends???????? ABROAD? WITHOUT MUMMY!!!!!!I can never allow this!!!!!!!!

I shall go and invest in lots of cotton wool to wrap my kids in and then lock them in the house until they are 50!!

It's not just with friends, it's not just abroad ... it's Ayia Napa ... I watched documentaries about the place a year ago ... jeez ...

One of them has been on school trips to Italy and France, and was also the subject of a thread a few months back when she got stranded in New York airport when it was shut down because of snowstorms! Another of my dds went trekking in Northern Territories of Australia when she was 17 (came home with tales to tell, oh boy).

Do not worry about a school trip to Germany.

I would like someone to reassure me about Ayia Napa!!! (They've packed buckets and spades by the way!)

I was in Ayia Napa last year - can be quite family orientated - depends what you're looking for - don't be too worried, the beaches are wonderful and the sea clear clear blue. the night life I don't really know about but can't be too wild... nothing like Ibiza.

My dd's 14 and she's going to the US on her own in August. She's meeting my brother and his family over there, I worry about the flight but have been told you can arrange for an escort to take a minor through customs and immigration and on to meet a family member... She's pretty unfazed!!! Such a long way away though.

Oh gawd - i don't like this growing up lark!

Oh God ... mine are back ... moaning and whining about everything ... they've been asleep all day (having arrived home in the early hours of the morning and having had no sleep).

They moaned about having no food in the house (there is, but they wanted crisps and chocolate!) They moaned because the house is full of noisy, small children (I'm a childminder). They've asked me to make them be quiet in the morning when they arrive - fat chance, dh told me he will leave them a megaphone.

What exactly is it that made me worry about them?

I feel for you. DS1 (12) is off to France on a school trip on Monday. I will be so worried about him. He wants to go, but I know he is worried about being away from us, he has been on school camp, but this seems a big step up. I haven't let him know that I'm worried. I tell him it is a brilliant opportunity etc, it is and I know that I have to let him start growing up now. Will be fretting all week until he gets home, tired and hungry on Friday!!!!
