What did teenage boys boys do before games consoles?

DS1 has momentarily brought his head up from a screen.

He is annoying his siblings. He has tried playing DDs flute (cue her screaming). He has demanded that DS2 "GET OUT THE HORNBY" that ended more peacefully than I expected.

I have suggested he played the ukalaly he bought, and has never played and was told "I tried it once, I was crap." Then challenged DD to a play fight.

I've now instructed him to lay the table to keep him out of mischief.

Listened to records. Then tapes. Then Walkman. Then discman. Then iPods.

I'm late 30s and I've had computer games my whole life- began with the Atari. My brothers and I also had small handheld games with donkey kong etc from pre-teen age.

I imagine the older generation got jobs.

DBro still turned into a pretty hardcore gamer.

I saw three great big hulking teens spend two hours damming a stream the other day.

Our school is near a skate park. I love it when I see a great big gang of lads all skateboarding up there together.
