Car Insurance for a 17 year old?

DD aged 17 is just about to start driving lessons so we need to start looking at car insurance.

I know that it is going to be horribly expensive but wondered if anyone could recommend an insurer and prepare me gently for likely cost.

I know that it is the same now for boys and girls cost-wise Smile

When DS1 started driving I managed to put him on my insurance for an extra £500. When he passed his test and we bought him a Peugeot 206 we used Tesco and got that under £1000, insurance in his name and with me as named driver - having a named driver helps cut the premiums. A black box was also installed. Like Tescos as it gives data on how the driver is driving so you can see if they drive too fast! After a year with no accidents insurance dropped to under £600

Hey Guys! I insured my son with MyFirstUK - really helpful people and saved us a lot of money. We were £1250 for the first year with him as the main driver and me as the named driver.

My 18yr old has just taken fully comp insurance with Admiral W/ black box fitted. £1020 payable in monthly instalments. Cheapest we could find.
