Wow, DS passed his Driving Test and I had a pain free Insurance Company Conversation!

All credit to Admiral. Cost us £500 to add DS to my Insurance last August (but we did have to cancel my policy & start again to get the "new customer" discount then). I was dreading how much it would be now he has passed, but it was only £135 - and I made another alteration to the policy at the same time that would have cost c. £20 anyway!

They will want about £2k when it comes up for renewal, but that's September and he will be off to Uni then so off the policy too.

Result!

So pleased for him as it's awful when they fail, and worse if they pass and can't afford insurance.

Now, where can he drive me? :)

DH wants to book a weekend away. We could leave him the car to get to his job with and not feel guilty!

We found Admiral very good too when DD was learning to drive (from Nov 11). She had her own car to insure but they did us a multi car discount. When she passed her test in March 12 it only cost another £80ish. However, when the renewal came up I shopped around and got it for less than Admiral would offer. The other great thing was, they had started her no claims from the day she started the policy (even as a learner) and not when she passed her test, so she had a full year when she came to renew

Who is she insured with now Amumthatcares? Always worth knowing the ones to try in the future.

I tried Admiral when I came to insure for DS1 as a learner. They didn't compete with the quote I got from Direct Line, although it was more than the £500 you paid.
They said it wouldn't go up if he passed his test during the year but as for renewal I am expecting the worst.

milliways - she is with Diamond this year, though I was surprised they were cheaper as I was under the impression that Admiral and Diamond were the male/female sides of the same people?

We've just renewed and added dd to our policy. Just over £800 which I thought was OK. That's with Admiral too and the excess wasn't horrific either.

Diamond and Admiral are the same people (even the same people answering calls/dealing with claims etc)

They just target different people and rate on different things so will have different prices - bell and elephant are part of the admiral group too!
