DS1 is going to bed very late and sleeping very late.

Also he isn't going out of the house. He's hardly been outside since they broke up from school. He came camping with us and enjoyed that and also a day at an NT place, Hadrian's wall. But apart from that h'e's on his computer. He is reading a bit too but I'm worried that he's not mixing with friends. He's so funny and popular at school but doesn't mix out of school.

Maybe it's a phase? He doesn't laugh as much nowadays either

How old is he?

My DS1 13 is similar and i have tried not to worry. I do make him come places with me if my ear drums can cope with the moaning but have also now put time constraints on his lap top. it just won't let him on before 11am and logs him off at 2pm. He then can log in at 7pm nad it turns off again at 9pm. So i have been able to limit screen time and am hugely popluar now

My DS1 has been like that this holiday. He has seen a few of his mates but last Summer we never saw him, he was out all the time.

He had his brace fitted a week ago so he's fed up about that I think.

He doesn't seem unhappy. Just seems to want to be at home.

He's almost 15. How do I turn off the laptop when I'm in bed? Sounds like a good idea as he's on it all hours.

Well, during term time, I take ds's laptop off him, but there is (I understand) a way of turning off the wi-fi at the router.
The going to bed late and getting up late is fairly standard behaviour for a teen though.
My 16 yr old ds does go out and about with his friends, but my 13 yr old dd hasn't seen any of her friends this holiday. Sometimes just works out that they are away when you are home, etc. It's not something to worry about.

Could you switch the wireless router off?

curious, i have switched off whole laptop not just wifi. i did it through the control panel on the lap top. Think it was in user accounts. My DS is not an administrator so he can't change it back. I edited his account and it has parental controls. On here you can limit when lap top will and won't turn on.

Last night his laptop switched itself off at 9pm he was overjoyed not impressed but i keep going on about lack of time away so now have enforced it. He thinks i am a control freak i think i am a parent who cares enough to do something about it.

He has actually gone to the park today whilst his laptop wasn't working

My DS is exactly same, he's 19 now and has been same since 15. In fact I would say he's got worse!

He socialises when he feels like it and that has got a bit better. I wouldn't worry to much, he'll do it on his own time.

I've always held the view that I'd rather have him staying up late on laptop and watching TV, than have him out somewhere doing god knows what.

I know I shouldn't worry. I suppose it's because ds2 is always out and about and dp and I like to be out at the allotment or walking, that I feel it'd be good for him to be out more.

He got up after 5pm today!

He's going to play scrabble with ds2 and me soon so he says? Plus he's keen to go camping again so that's a good sign

Teenagers brains are wired up differently re sleep patterns. He'll do stuff when he wants to. I'm always of the view that we should choose our battles.

They are in there somewhere and will come back again when they are ready (in the meantime as long as they are safe And healthy ish and eduction is going ok then we have not too much to worry about)

Oh I'm not battling with him at all. He's good natured. He grunts a bit but I think he puts a lot of that on to wind me up He's top nationally in English and top in most of his other subjects too so I'm not worried about him academically at all. I suppose I was worried he was depressed as it runs in the family.

Tonight we played Scrabble together and had a good laugh. I helped ds2 though so ds1 came last. He found that funny. If it'd been just me and ds2 playing I'd have gone easy but I couldn't with ds1

Ds2 is 15 and since hols has stayed in his room with blackout curtains all day
He admitted to going to sleep at about 4am and sleeps a full 12 hrs at least

We went to spain for 2wks in july and i dont think he saw much sun he stayed in bed sleeping or on his ipod on the wifi

We have now taken the ipod off him at 11.30pm and have said he must sleep at proper times were on day 2 today and yesterday he was up at lunch time x

Oh btw ds1 is 16 (GCSE results today) and he goes to bed at 11ish and is up between 8-9am and is always out and a out

He's still in bed today and I had hoped he'd be up earlier as he'd promised to go up to bed before sunrise We're all out for tea and a movie tomorrow night (movie cafe) so he'll have to be up then!

Good luck to your ds1 wednesdaygirl. I think ds2 will be more like him he's always up early.

I work in a college. We started enrolment today and I lost count of the numbers of parents who said "he's just got up!" and this was in the late afternoon session.

We are not alone

DS1 got up just before 1 today. Dp had a go at him last night about still being on the computer. So he went to bed at 3am instead of 5 or 6. This afternoon I told him it was 4pm instead of just before 1 and it made him get up early We all went out to the movie cafe to see Avengers and have tea. We had a nice time
