Recommendations for first-time tampons for teen

My 13 year old dd may have her period when we're on holiday. Going by previous years, she'll be looking to spend 90% of her time in the water! She's had four periods since she started mensturating and there's no pattern yet to help us with dates. Should I just buy a selection of tampons for her to try before we go just in case the worst should happen?

That sounds like a good idea. Is she comfortable with trying them?

I have always found the applicator ones easiest to get on with. :)

She's desperate to be able to continue her swimming so is prepared to give them a go! I also prefer applicator ones - wondered about buying some KY Jelly as well to make things about easier?

deffo tampax pearl. dd thinks they are the easiest and most comfortable.

Thanks, MP. I'll get some tomorrow for her to try!

The pearl tampons have a smoother applicator (plastic as opposed to cardboard), so they glide in more easily.

Agree with the KY jelly idea. Also make it clear that DD needs to insert tampon high up in her vagina- I remember clearly not doing this myself which resulted in being able to feel the tampon and much discomfort, followed by more discomfort removing it.......

YY to tampax pearl and ky jelly!

Just remember she does need to be bleeding enough to be using tampons I always find them hard to use on the last few days of my period, but Lil lets do a teen starter pack with a range of sanitary products she could try before you go so she gets used to them, theres nothing worse than feeling uncomfortable whilst using tampons especially on holiday. Heres the link: www.lil-lets.co.uk/en-GB/whats-new/Teens%20starter%20pack
Hope this helps Smile

Another vote for Tampax pearl for first time use.

Just a suggestion - but if you think there is a big change that she will be on her period, would you consider getting a pill from GP that delays your period for a few days?
If she's only just started using tampons she may still be very self conscious, esp when getting in pool!
Glad to hear that Pearl was a success though!!
