Over past 12 months, DD 15 run away, self harmed, attempted suicide, 3 months on psychiatric ward, violent towards me and her dad. She is attending Camhs centre 3 days a week. Am exhausted, feel powerless and useless to help- DD resisting all attempts to help and refusing medication. Love her dearly but desperately need break.Parents too far away and elderly to have her. Any suggestions? Please

So sorry - no constructive suggestions, but "bumping" this for you. Must be so hard to deal with.

There are homes tht take kids like this for 4 to 5 days at a time when their parents need a break. It's not like going into care, they have specialist doctors and stuff, and the kids treat it like a camp thing. Maybe look one up? Its only for a few days at a time.

That sounds interesting, any idea how to find one? I've tried looking but I'm not sure where to start

I fantasise about something like this... But I can't imagine how I'd get him to go... :(

Talk to CAMHS about respite care, they may be able to recommend something.

flow4 - it sounds like you're in a similar position. There may be one way to get him in to respite, could you share a little bit more about your situation?
