He has had hours of lessons, but had a mock test last week and got six majors. He was booked to have a test in Deceember but changed it because he said he wasn't ready and I think his driving instructor agreed!
He had a rocky year at sixth form college, hated it , said he was a failure. We looked into different options, he changed courses and colleges and he is now doing a btec and getting on well. I think it all knocked his self esteem a but because he is a bright and popular boy.
We treated him to lessons for his 18th so I think he is scared of failing because we have paid so much out. It's not the money, I so want him to pass for himself. He is on his last lesson tonight but said he felt sick before he went! I am willing him to pass although I have told him it doesn't matter, its no big deal. I had 4 tests myself! Heres's hoping it all goes well !! Smile.

up until fairly recently I was a driving instructor so speak from some experience of pupils on test. Six majors is pretty bad but could've been down to nerves, remind him of the mistakes he made so is pretty unlikely to make the same ones again. He's making the mistakes now so they won't be repeated on test! The examiners aren't looking for a perfect drive, they just want a confident one. Not cocky, but so the new driver could confidently get in a car after passing and drive safely with consideration for others.

If he does fail then it really isn't the end of the world. Put in for a re-test asap while his skills are still good and he will go into that one knowing more what to expect and he'll be fine.

Good luck!!

Thanks, hopefully it was nerves. I had 3 tests and 3 driving instructors didn't have a clue, went out with my FIL for a few drives, passed and have never looked back. It just clicked. Hopefully he will do ok, his mate just failed his second test and he excels at everything. I think he just think he may need loads more lessons, but hopefully not !! x

Rescue Remedy in a bottle of water helped settle my DD's nerves on the morning of her test. Good luck to him.
