Where can I find trousers to fit an ectomorph?!!

My 15 year old DS is going through a growth spurt, and is shooting upwards but not outwards (so unlike his dumpy mother!). Waist-wise he can still fit into age 12-13 jeans, but the hems end around his shins and make him look like something out of Oliver Twist... if we look in adult ranges I can get the leg length he needs, but the smallest waist tends to be 28" and these just drop off him. I'm at my wits end. Does anyone have any suggestions where we might find jeans/ trousers with a 24-25" waist and a 30" inside leg? (Ideally also cheap, as he's still growing!)

Bumping. I have the same problem with DD. I have just brought some skinny jeans for a 12 year old back from Gap for DD (11). The length is perfect the waist and bottom are too big. She is very slender and has lo-o-ong legs.

Dare I suggest buying him some Topshop size 6 boyfriend style jeans and cutting the label out :)

I'm not at that age range yet, so it might not be the same for teen sizes, but I've had similar problems with my DD in the past - we found that Levis do a T range which fit her beautifully when nothing else would - she too still fit into 2 sizes smaller width wise, but needed sizes bigger in length

I used to get my long, thin son's black school trousers from Ebay - there's a make called Zeco on there that seems to be available in long, thin sizes. However it seems to be just school/smart stuff.

He used to get his jeans (and still does) from Next. Some of the skinny styles (although starting at 28inch waist) were okay, with a belt, after a wash and tumble dry. Might be worth your son trying on the various styles. Smile

Good luck.

Have you tried the Debenhams Teen range? DS was wearing theirs before his recent spurt as they were the only skinny ones that fit him. He now gets his jeans from republic as their 28" is quite slim (but he still needs a belt) as he is about 5'11 tall with VERY skinny waist.

TopMan also do XXS sizes

Theas18 · 10/01/2012 20:07

WE found DS some in primark. The sizes are very hit and miss- keep trying things that look likely and ignore what the label says!

Outside the UK alert(as per other thread). But if you have a Hollister outlet store (I say outlet because its so vv expensive otherwise) then their kids XL is perfect, the waist is small but the legs long. Must be what they feed those Americans.

We had this problem with DS at this age but managed to get his jeans from Next Directory boys range as they do a 'slimfit' in some ranges and also have adjustable waist up to age 14 - so you can go up a size and bring the waist in on the inside (with a t-shirt over it no one will notice).
We have more trouble now that DS has just turned 15, is a 28" waist and 34" inside leg. We have to buy his jeans in Tesco when we spot the occasional pair in a 30"/34" but he needs to wear a belt. After trawling the internet one afternoon we did find him one solitary green canvas pair on e-bay in a 28"/34" but they are rare as hens teeth. Dreading him growing again - his dad has a 36" inside leg and it is difficult to get trousers for him too as he is a 32" waist and most places that do extra long only start at 34" waist.

Sorry chmum - misread your post - thought your son was 13 but see he is same age as my son. Next boys trousers were long enough for my DS until last year and he was probably a 32 inside leg last yr. 'Slimfit' in age 15 or 16 might be worth a try. (Slimfit are slimmer fitting through waist and hips and have adjustable waist on all sizes - according to my size chart)

MedusaIsHavingABadHairDay · 11/01/2012 21:39

We get my son's from NEXT. He's 14 but 6 ft and only 8 stone..so thin as a rail. The slim fit are good (we get the age 16) and they have adjustable waists in the school trousers so can be pulled right in. The mens 28 waist are ok too but sometimes need a belt.

We have also found some ridiculously tight ones in Primark mens...:)

Zippylovesgeorge · 12/01/2012 21:20

Next slim fit in the skinny jeans would be ideal - I have the same problem with my 2. Even harder now eldest needs XL inside leg 35"+ - they seem to start those at a 34 waist - he wears a belt and then they still sit quite low on him.

takeonboard · 14/01/2012 15:05

Next do a slim fit in many of their jeans and trousers but only online. They really are very slim

piebald · 25/01/2012 09:24

Try H & M, They were always good for my boys at that shape
