Possible house party for 14 year old DD?

Looking for ideas/advice please if possible

DD is 14 mid March, started talking about what she'd like to do to celebrate. She was hoping we might let her have a house party with maybe a DJ (!) I've looked into hiring a DJ but probably have to rule it out due to cost but also because the two that have replied to my enquiry have said they dont do discos in private houses - just marquees or halls. DD said couldnt we just use our (pretty good) iPod dock/system etc, which is fine but then on the other hand she wants me & DH to disappear upstairs for the time the party is on, but then she asked who would look after the music?! I think she likes the idea of a house party but is worried that without a DJ organising the music/maybe a few more grown-up style games, it will be a bit naff and they all might just stand around. A few years ago she had a disco in a hall, but i'm guessing this would also be a bit naff now that she and her friends are older. Also, I wouldnt like the idea of gatecrashers which would be harder to control in a hall.

So does anyone have any ideas as to how make a house party go with a bang? hopefully not literally

Or do I try to convince her that a night out with maybe half a dozen friends at an all you can eat Chinese buffet and possibly a sleepover would be better?!

(last year she & 4 friends went out for a meal then back at our for a sleepover)

personally i would convince her that a night out is better.. my DD was 16 in December, they all went out bowling and for a meal and then a few whom lived to far away came back for a sleep over .. She did want a house party, but i convinced her not too, mainly as i hate noise lol

At 14 a night out would probably go better then a house party. When DD2 was 14 she had a meal out at a proper restaurant. I checked with the restaurant was okay with a group of 13 and 14 year olds to come on their own and also arranged for DH to pay when he picked them up. There were only 4 of them. DD2 just wanted her few best friends. Anyway they all dressed up DH dropped them off. They enjoyed ordering their food and having a special evening our. DD2 phoned DH when they were ready to come home and also let him know how much it was.

thanks both of you. i would far rather she went out for a meal or something similar too, and after speaking to DH about it in more detail that is what we are going to tell her. it will probably go down like a lead balloon but heyho she's not paying for it!

When DS1 was 14 he had a house "dinner" party. Half a dozen guests (boys and girls). I made pizza bases and they created their own toppings. I made the table look posh and they drank schloer from champagne glasses.
Then they played twister and watched a DVD.
It was the easiest,cheapest and loveliest party I ever did.

I agree - wouldn't want a house party for 14+ year olds! But we still have to sort out DD's 13th yet. The meal out plan sounds good to me
