renewing my own car insurance and asked my company to quote adding my son (new full licence) and it came back over £7500 and so I take it they really don't want my business! I only want to insure him from May to Oct when he goes off to Uni but cannot get anything on line that gives this option and have just been waiting in call lines with three companies and they really couldn't understand why I would only want him insured for 5 months. Any advice from others who have done this please?

You'll need to insure for the year and change the policy when
You no longer need your son on the insurance

hmm not sure how they do it but my friend is put on for her mothers car for like 2 weeks at a time for like xmas hols when back from uni etc and i think it costs something like £78 so it can be done

That sounds an awful lot. I added DD(18, full licence) to mine last week for an additional £315. That will cover her from May to the end of September. It's only a small car though. I know boys have been more expensive to insure than girls up until now but I thought that had changed.

my mum added my nephew for one month leading up to his test. It was £90. Small car again though

Thanks eveyone, I went with liverpool and victoria which was just over 1,000 which i am hoping i can take him off in october and re add when need, hopefully with money back. It was all a bit of shock because i added him for 3 months when he was learning gor £315.

WIth a provisional licence it is a lot cheaper, unfortunately, then when they pass it goes up loads!
DD2 had to get a years policy, but we went with the one that was cheapest to cancel as we know she wont need it after September. Some of them wanted huge amounts of money to cancel it half way through, so do ask!

It's with Churchill. I wasn't renewing though as it expires end of Sept anyway.
