Teens and Tampons!

Hello ladies! Just a bit of advise really!

My daughter has just turned 14 years old and so far had 3 periods. She is managing fine with them, and I was wondering how soon to try her with tampons?

She prefers to use towels without wings (getting changed for PE when wearing a towel with wings is too embarrasing! When I was her age winged towels didn't exist!) Used to get them from Wilkinsons but they don't seem to have them any more, not looked at Boots yet

I had a chat with her earlier and I think she would like to try, I have said it may take a few attempts, I think I first tried when I was about 16 or 17 and on about my third attempt I got the hang of it

Thanks!

I used tampons from my very first period. We were given samples of Tampax at school. My mother was horrifiedGrin She asked me if I had definately put it 'in the right place??'

But it still took lots of practice and many leaky disasters before I got the hang of it all. Having a selection of pads/tampons somewhere accessible for her to help herself to is probably a good idea.

MaryZ - Oh the joys :) Dammed if you do and dammed if you don't!! Grin

Personally I prefer the non applicators and find them easier to use.

You really can see why there's such a huge range can't you!!

My Mum didn't want me to use them either - I think she thought that once I figured you could put 'them' up there I'd rush right into letting a boy put 'it' up there Confused

My Mum worked on a checkout when I was young and asked a customer about Lillets as she was buying them Blush. Got info from customer and brought some home for me. Was pleased to have them actually as I used to skate and of course, wear the short dresses ~ even with the house brick in situ! Blush

Both my older DD's use tampax compaq, and get on ok with them, though trying to encourage Dd2 to change them regularly is proving to be a challenge as she hates the school toilets with a passion and has rarely entered them since reception, now year 10Hmm.

I do worry about the length of time she is wearing them, but she is refusing to have the conversation with me at the moment.

My advice purpleknitting is before you encourage tampons, check that she is happy to use the loos at school.

Can't you send off for free Lilets these days then? Just 17 always used to have coupons you could cut out and send off when I was you. Admittedly this was 25 years ago.

Cyril - if I weren't an only DD, I'd have said we must have the same mother!

I only knew about tampons from a friend's mother.

Good idea Ineedalife!

I think she is OK, but will double check. I got a box yesterday and she knows they are there for when she wants to give them a go

Had a little chat with my mum and she said she couldn't use them until after my older brother was born!

A quick update, I had the chat with Dd2 about changing her tampon at school and she has agreed to try to start going the the loo at lunchtime when she is using tampons.

I am glad this thread came up because it prompted me to have the conversation with her.

Thanx purpleSmile
