2 year 13s holidaying in Los Angeles alone

My son and his friend want to go to LA in the summer alone. He will still be 17 and his friend just 18. They have saved the money but we cannot go. We took him 2 years ago and he loved it so much he has always wanted to return. He and his friend are obviously from differing ethnic groups and some have said that this may be a problem given the gang culture in LA.

My gut reaction is that they are too young although I may feel differently about them going to Europe alone and am aware that lots of ypeople go travelling as a gap year at the same age.

I would appreciate any opinions/ideas.

How would they be travelling around? Presumably they're too young to rent a car?

They would be using public transport.

Hope this reply gets to you as I haven't used a forum before

The vast, vast majority of hotels in US require somebody over 21 to check in.

If they do go then they will need to search for hotels where the min check in age is 18.

I travelled to NYC alone with friends three time from the age of 18-20. Like your son I had once visited the area before.

To nannyro

That's helpful info thanks.

I think I'd feel happier if they were a group rather than just 2
