LITTLE GOSSIP WEBSITE - LET'S SHUT IT DOWN

I've been forwarded this by a friend who has a teenage son. Fortunately, my DS is a bit young to be bothered by this, but I've had a look and it's vile... Not sure where to put this, but as it's aimed at teenagers I thought this would be best place.

The most appalling website has sprung to prominence. It?s an open book for bitching, bullying, backstabbing and the very, very worst of teenage brutishness.

Anyone can write anonymous vitriol about anyone AND name that person. Please look at the website: www.littlegossip.com and then:

  1. Block it from all computers to which your children have access

  2. Send a complaint to both of these email addresses and your MP and to anyone else who you think might reasonably be able to do something to stop this.

[email protected] and [email protected]
3) Forward this email to your entire address book.

Please take the time to do this now or more and more teenagers will suffer.

From a brief glance at the site I agree the content appears "toxic" - much is quite likely libelous in that it is either untrue or whomever has posted the comment would not be able to prove the comment to be true but in any event definitely in breach of an individual's right of privacy, and probably more.

All of these offences are being committed by the web-site that is publishing the comments - it is likely that whomever is hosting the site is vicariously liable as well. Bombard your MP with requests for what THEY are doing to ensure that the site owners (and whomever is hosting the site) are prosecuted. Request regular updates. ALSO, sign this e-petition (epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/23177) and circulate it to everyone you know, irrespective of whether they have children, asking them to sign it as well.

Too many individuals believe they can make public whatever comment they wish, irrespective of the truthfulness of same, either simply because they think that digital publishing isn't "real" or, more likely, simply because they are spineless individuals who can hide behind the anonymity of web-sites such as Little Gossip. You would not see these posts if the site published the full name (and town) of the person posting them.
