Pocket money for a 14 yo dd

Can anybody please help with suggestions ? How much pocket money do you give to your 14 yo ?
She gets £10 for mobile phone every month. This is separate from the pocket money allowance.

I don't have a 14 yr old, but my 14 year old niece gets her age in pocket money which she has to do jobs for, half of her pocket money has to go into a savings account, and she also gets quarterly bonus's based on her school reports and general attitude, the bonuses are for her to spend on clothes and spending money for holidays.

I should of said that her pocket money is paid @ £14 per week but paid monthly via a direct debit into her bank account.

My 13 & 11.5 year old DSs both get £5 a week, each.

Any other examples ? It is for my dsd and would like to show her some responses as to what is a reasonable amount.

Since my 13-year old DS has just moved up to senior school, I've started giving him pocket money.

I opened up a bank account for him and put £50 in (the interest is rubbish otherwise, and I want him to be able to see a meaningful amount). I have set up a standing order of £5 per week, so that's his pocket money.

I've loaded his phone with £30 worth of calls, and I am happy to re-imburse him (into his account) for any calls he makes to me, but not to his friends.

His account comes with a Visa Electron card and, again, I will reimburse him for anything I think essential. But if he has to visit the school shop because he has lost his pencil case or rugby socks, then it's up to him to pay for these.

my 12.5 year old gets £40 per month but she has to buy all her clothes, cd's, mobile phone top up, presents etc. we buy her school stuff and anything "necessary". The reason we give her an all inclusive amount is because she generally shops with her friends. However based on the fact that last month she bought a dvd for £25 and phone top up for £10 I am thinking of adjusting this. I may give her £5 pw and buy her clothes myself.

On top of this she has horse riding lessons at £70pm - she is a spoiled brat

My 10 and 12yo are given £5 per wk pocket money. They are given extra if they help us out with chores over and above their normal chores.

God, I must be tight. My 13yo DD gets £10 a month. I do obviously buy all her own clothes but she does top up her mob with that!! I think £50 a month is a ridiculous amount to give to a 14 yr.old. My DD has been doing a job at our local farm and earned some money and I would expect her to be earning some money when she is 14 plus. It worked with my nearly 17 yr.old DD and she is now careful with her money and has a part time job at our local pub, which she has had since she was 14!

If you don't teach them about money now, they willnever learn!!

My 15 year old gets £25 pound a month. She has to buy her own clothes with this except for school uniform and shoes. She doesn't have a mobile phone as I dont like them for under 16's ( my brother had a brin tumour and is now severly disabled which has made me very wary of youngsters using mobile phones)My 13 year old gets around £10 a month. My eldest stopped getting her allowence when she got a Saturday job.

My 14 yr old dd gets £5 per week pocket money (just gone up from £4 ths week) plus £20 for clothes (except for school clothes, shoes, underwear). She also gets her phone topped up from time to time, probably about £10 per month.
In return she is supposed to load the dishwasher / wash the dishes every night, keep her room tidy, do her homework and read a book of my choosing every week

My dds (12 and 14) get £15 a month on their phones, £30 clothes allowance and £20 a month pocket money.

NOTHING

he has a job. he has a phone but prefers to spend his money of other things. a decision we all have to make

why dont they get a job? sorry personal thing - but really i dont understand why you would just hand over freely all that money to a 14 year old - dont they even have to do chores? help out? wash the car? clean the toilet? wash their clothes?
iron their uniforms?

so my son is in the middle of fixing his bike with his older brother so he can get a paper round.

i think when they get older there will be a shock comming.... what you have to wash your clothes?

and you have to clean your own skid marks off the toilet ?

and red wool things cant get washed at 90 degrees with white things?

don't know what its like where you live but it's quite hard for 14 year olds to get jobs here. Most big places want them when they're at least 16 and have a National Insurance number - don't know why and I personally think it's pants ,but that's the way it is. My dd is keen to work and has asked in loads of places and, so far, has always had one of two responses. Either "we'll keep you in mind" (and she never hears anything from them) or "You're too young".
Agree totally with you about them working round the house though.

It is also hard for 14 year olds to get jobs round here tabitha for the same reasons that you have said. All my children take turns in cleaning the bathroom and they also dust vacuum and hang the washing out when they are asked. The 15 and 18 year old iron thir own clothes. The 13 year old is dyspraxic so I haven't let her do that yet although she can and does often make me a cup of tea or coffee. So they don't get thir money for nothing and I think it is important for children to have some money so that they can learn to budget. My 18 year old has a part time job so we don't give her anything

Custardo - agree with you totally. £65 a month GIVEN to a 12 & 14 year old is totally beyond my comprehension. What on earth is going to inspire a child to even think about getting a job if they get £65 a month for next to nothing?
Yes, agree with you all, it is hard for a 12 year old to get a job. But once they are 13/14 yrs old, if they persevere, anything is possible.
We live in a little village in the middle of nowhere (population 650) and both my 2 dds have jobs locally. If we can do it, anyone can. You just have to encourage them to be persistant and the only way they will be persistant, is if they don't have any money! To be honest, I begrudge spending money on my own mobile let alone funding 2 children £15 each for theirs!!
I know this is just my opinion but having seen other teenagers given 'allowances' of god knows what a month, they tend to be the ones who never get part time jobs! Why should they? They don't need to!

my son had a paper round from 12 years old. got up at 6.00am for months until an evening one came available.

he now works for a building firm in the holidays.

i am reliable informed that the bike needs new brake bar or something which will cost £20 - this am willing to pay - then he can get a paper round.

last year i had infinate discussions about mobile phones - they were desperate to have one ( the twins) and i told them it would be a pay as you go one and that i wasn't forking out money and so they would have to do jobs or save their x,as birthday money

they agreed they would and so they got one. they use them rarely as there is no money on them - which suits me as i have a moral objection to children having them

Absolutely - custardo. My 13 and 16 yo have both got mobs and yes, they use them but they also pay for them. I have never given them any money towards it. Its amazing how much they spend on their mob compared to others their age. One boy (16) at dds school I am reliably informed gets his contract phone paid for and the bill is usually anything up to £100 per month. Madness!! They both know they can ring our landline, give it 2 rings, and we will ring them back and that covers any safety aspect but I am bug**d if I am paying for the mindless texts teenagers endlessly send each other!!!

Before anyone thinks I am as tight as a ducks arse, I do buy all their clothes (well older DD buys some of hers). Everything they earn, they either save, or spend or do what they want to do with it. It tends to go towards mob, outings, luxuries that sort of thing.

14 yr dd hoovers and dusts whole house on a saturday morning. 12 yr washs up after tea 3 0r 4 nights a week.Money includes bus fare to go to town or friends houses so I dont have to drive them everywhere.
