Thinking of buying my husband an iPad for his birthday. Looking at the “Apple iPad 2025” I’m wondering what storage option would be best for an iPad? He’s not a big fan of tech so wouldn’t use it for alot, maybe just going online, some games and downloading some films on Netflix/prime for when he goes camping etc. can anyone help with storage size recommendations please? Thanks

Biggest you can afford. There is no real reason other than cost to go with a smaller drive, unless all the machine is going to be used for is browsing, email, and so on, in which case storage simply is not required.

Modern gaming and movie files are forever becoming larger and larger, so say he does suddenly develop an interest in storing movies or something, it's better to have the extra capacity than not.

If he’s not a big fan of tech why would you buy him an iPad?

Games can take a lot of space up each so if he's going to be playing on it you want the extra storage if you can afford it.

I usually end up replacing devices once I hit max storage as the faff of constantly deleting and re-downloading other apps I use constantly becomes too frustrating. I don't keep apps I don't use/need anymore so when it's full it's stopping me from doing my day to day stuff. I've found going for the bigger storage can make a device last 6--8 years instead of only 3-4.

Games and film sizes are growing year on year as the quality gets better. A single high quality game can easily hit 15GB and a film downloaded from Netflix can be 3-6GB.

I would have thought the 256GB would be sufficient, if he just wants to download a few games and films for the trip. (which is what I tend to do)

However if wants have take a large library, and decide on what to watch on the trip, then 512GB would be worth considering, especially if he doesn't want the hassle of managing the space.
