Reconditioned/ refurbished iphone as first phone - which?

Hi all
I am planning to get my dd (11) a phone to use so she can contact me and for what’s app/ photos (only!!)
She is desperate for an iphone so I was thinking to buy a refurbished one - any suggestions which? Something that ideally is as long lasting as possible and not too ancient a model. Is there anything I need to be aware of? Is this a waste of money or cost effective solution ? Thanks v much !

Not a waste of money, go for a 12 or later if you can afford it.

Definitely get an app to be able to monitor or restrict app downloads etc.

For an 11 year old I would also consider registering their own domain name for a multitude of reasons.
