Getting phone fixed - do I have to reset it before sending it in?

Sons phone from back market, still under warranty and screen has frozen so it's impossible to do anything. Gone through their warranty return process and they say you MUST sign out of google account or they can't fix it. Obviously I can't do that because I can't do anything at all on it. I could do a factory reset to remotely using my parental control app, but I'd rather not do that if I don't have to and risk losing stuff that may not have back up on the auto backup.

I have tried and tried but cannot for the life of me manage to find a way to ask someone from bloody backmarket. It's always loops me back to the warranty return stuff which doesn't allow me to actually ask a human a question.

Does anyone here know?

Can you let the battery run down and it will power off and may start up again?

(Note: I don't know about these things either.)

Thanks - I've tried shutting it (manual button does it) and reopening but no good. I guess I'll just have to reset it and risk losing stuff. Sigh

I don't think you have much choice, chances are you may never see the phone again and it would be safer if it was reset.
