Cartilage piercings and smaller gauge jewellery

I have a 3yo helix piercing that I usually wear a 14ga labret in. I'd like to be able to put a hoop in it occasionally but most of the ones I like are 16ga. Do I need to worry about the hole shrinking if I put smaller jewellery, say for a day at a time? I'd hate to not be able to get my usual stud back in.

If it's long healed then it won't shrink with occasional wear of smaller jewellery.
