Daughter

Daughter has tattoos on face.
I know it's her choice but can't get my head around it. Feel so disappointed and shocked as so extreme.
Haven't said to her but everytime I look at her I think she's ruined her beautiful face and it eats me up.
How to I get over this?
Also I know it wrong but I can see people judging her everyday.

How much of her face is covered?

All her neck is covered with tendrils and going up the sides of her face. They are very good tattoos though and very well drawn.
She works in mental health for the NHS and has had 3 promotions, so gone up 3 grades in the last 5 years. she's quite senior now

Mine would be disinherited if they did this. Awful, awful thing to do.

She has made her feelings clear on liking them and having them on her face. You are entitled to make it clear that you dislike them.

My GP has stars on her face and I work in a professional setting and see them quite a lot tbh when we are onsite. Was surprised to see a client who always seemed very formal on emails with one similar to George Clooneys character in dusk til dawn going up his neck!

Not disagreeing that it's unusual, I just think it's not massively unusual to see nowadays.

Don’t know - I’ve certainly never seen them on anyone’s face in a professional work setting, and I have a job where I meet lots of people working in different places.

A couple of small stars I can see you might get away with, but in a lot of jobs it wouldn’t help - so I can see why the oP is worried.

However, nothing to do about it until/if she decides to get them removed.

I can imagine in that field it could well be OK.

What I don’t understand though - is that while the tattoos might look good now and her skin is young and firm, when they are 25 years old and bleeding and fading a bit and she is getting gravity drop and wrinkles, as we all do, they are simply not going to look good - does this thought not bother her?

When I see gen Zs and younger millennials I always think that gen alpha and what ever gen comes after will be massively put off tattoos by this middle aged sight..

I think removal can be quite good now. What op have said, save up a little fund to help if/when she wants them removed. Your taste

I new a guy many years ago that had tattoos i like tattoos but not on the face,
As the years went on it just look awful on him.
Hopefully your daughters face tattoos are not as bad as what the above guys was.
He had a comment across his brow and a heart on the other side along with other crap on his face.
Just looks like greenish blackish smug now on his face not good.

Just wanted to say I totally understand. My daughter has gone and got a big one on her arm and I was very upset. Fellt sick for quite a while over it and I can't imagine how I would be if it was her face. Many people said my reaction was completely over the top and it probably was but I couldnt help feeling that way. Sorry 💐

Twistybranch · 25/08/2024 21:36

Well she’s young and she could change her mind in the future. She could have them lasered or use camouflage make up.

I’m pretty sure she will know that you probably preferred her without them and that most people have a strong opinion about tattoos on faces but she was happy to go ahead regardless. She’s the one that will get stares and comments, so she’s obviously tough enough to deal with it.

Dont feel bad that you don’t like them, it’s quite a normal reaction to have. It will fade over time, just like tattoos

I always think people with face / neck tattoos have mental health issues otherwise why the hell do it , the last taboo and absolutely horrible and yes people do judge .

Ah the unconditional love of a parent (unless you do something they don't want you to do).

@SaintHonoria you are harsh. If I was your daughter, I really wouldn't want your inheritance thank you.
Your money does not buy me freedom

Rory17384949 · 25/08/2024 22:25

I would feel the same, but it's really not up to you and you need to find a way to deal with it. She's still the same person as she was before the tattoos

Kelly51 · 25/08/2024 23:10

As for the pps being very upset at any tattoo, really need to get a grip, it's none of your business and why be upset it doesn't affect you.

But she's not though , not just visually but you'd never understand how she could think it would be a good idea , you'd also worry about the judgment, disdain , suspicion ( drugs , violence, aggression etc . )

It is not a nice look in anyone's book unless they have the same disfiguring appearance. I personally have no issue with tattoos anywhere but the face and neck on particularly a woman is just horrible .
