Where to go for this specific tattoo

Hi all.

First timer for a tattoo which has been brought on by some sudden losses in our close friend group and the realisation that life is short!

Myself and my partner are after a very small tattoo. I know exactly what we want and the placement but I also know that tattoo artists hate it or at least the ones in our local area and social media do.

The tattoo we want has meaning to us and with our friends we have lost but I know we will be judged on it!

So basically we want an infinity symbol on the inside of our pinkies. Very small job but as I say it has meaning to us and there is a specific reason we would like it in that location.

Question is, will any tattoo artist actually do this for us or are we chasing an unrealistic dream. I know it's boring to most and must be annoying to have to do but as I say it is for a reason.

Does anyone have a tiny tattoo? As I say it's our first ever one so we have no experience of anything!

Sorry for the rambling post. Just feel like we want something which I think is relatively simple compared to huge beautiful designs but tattoo artists seem to hate with a passion!

Who's told you they hate it?!
I have a small infinity symbol. No issue whatsoever getting it done. For reference the tattoo artist I chose is well respected and also does lots of large detailed pieces. She may have secretly hated doing g it but certainly didn't let on!

Just to add, how tiny are you thinking? I was advised not to go too small as they can fade & blur. Tattoos on the hands also don't last as well so it may not be a great combination. I would think this would be more of a reason they may not be too keen.

Eh who told you they hate it? Who cares if they hate it anyway. Get what you want.

MurderousCheekbones · 28/03/2024 21:18

Look, they'll take your money. Who cares what they think?

WaltzingWaters · 28/03/2024 21:24

It’ll be an easy and quick tattoo for them
to do, so they’ll be fine doing it.

They may advise that the finger isn’t a great place for a tattoo - but if you get it simple and big enough to allow for a bit of blurring, it’ll be fine. I have a finger tattoo and it has blurred a bit (far more than tattoos in other areas), but it still looks fine as it’s simple.

Tattooist here - I don't tattoo the inside of fingers, not because of some judgemental reasons, but because it will heal really badly. So for boring technical reasons. As far design goes, I would want you to have exactly what you want if it's meaningful, and try and make the experience as good as possible.

You may find it’s expensive as a lot charge by time and their minimum slot is say 30mins or an hour. I don’t think people will refuse because it’s small but rather that it’s not a great location.

also loads of places are doing tiny tats now such as astrid and miyu and where I go to get my eyebrows tinted also so them (Sheffield in case your close)

I totally get where you're coming from. My first tattoo had a lot of personal meaning too.
For something like an infinity symbol on the inside of your pinkies, it can be tricky because some artists shy away from small, detailed tattoos in that area. The skin there is delicate, and tattoos can fade or blur faster. That said, there are artists who will still do it if they understand the meaning behind it.
I’d suggest visiting a few shops, explaining the significance, and seeing if any artist is comfortable with the placement. Some might turn it down, but I’m sure you’ll find someone who respects the importance it holds for you and your partner.

The only issue i can see an artist having with this idea is having it on the side of your Pinky. Fingers can not only fade but also 'blow out' and look like a blob really. Especially with a very small tattoo.

Would you look at another area like the wrist? Where the likelihood is of a better healed product.
