Love the tattoo, hate the placement!

My DH tells me it looks good, but I can't help feeling like the owl looks like it's just fallen into place... Please give me your honest opinions?
Loved the design I was shown. When the artist was sizing up he suggested A4, perfect! Once it was printed, there was A4 plus another third of an A4. But when he was placing it, and it was right on top of the beetle, I asked for it to go higher, so that I could get shading in between. He said it would look good, like it was going behind the beetle. I trusted his advice, he's produced some amazing pieces! Yes, I got carried away with the size, I really wanted a big piece...
But now I hate it, I feel it's taking away from the beetle. And I have no idea how to work it into a nice flowing leg sleeve 😓
Any suggestions?
This isn't the first tattoo I hate either, I'm really hating myself right now for not sticking up for what I wanted.

With regards to the beetle could you add some hints of colour ? To make it stand out more the way you'd like

The owl dominates the beetle , I had to look all the way down to see the beetle . Now it looks like the owl caught the beetle as prey . I agree it looks odd .

I wish I had the confidence to get something like, up and to the left somewhat so it went totally over a bumcheek would look great

It looks like one tattoo instead of owl and beetle.

But it's absolutely crackin anyways.

To me it looks like it has a bats head rather than an owl.

It's stunning! As a pp said, maybe consider some colour in the beetles wings, like an iridescent green perhaps.

Not being mean its well done it really is good work.
But i think it looks awful sorry.

It looks fine op, just keep adding more stuff to/around it like spiders, moths, snakes etc., flames n shit in the gaps 👌

It looks like a demonic owl.

It also looks faded like an image like the graphics used to look from a cartoon magazine we used to read in the 1970s.

Laser tattoo removel would be my first choice i couldent have that on me.

I cant make out the beetle without squinting! And is there something else at the bottom too?whats the green at the front of your leg? It might just be a bad photo but Im sorry its not a great tattoo

Do you wear clothes that usually sit as high as where you are holding them in this pic? I think it’s the right placement. If you are in a swimming costume or undies then this is the right place for it to sit without risk of the owl being covered partially. I’d probably go back and ask them to do some reworking of the beetle to make it pop a bit as a separate piece.

Why the craze these days to just have black and white tattoos? They used to be vibrant with colour.

It’s not my cup of tea and I think I know why you’re not happy, but give it enough time and you won’t be analysing it so intensely. It will just be a thing on your keg.

The bird thing looks nothing like a real owl, more of a made up bird, cant even make out a beetle, it all sort of merges together.

I think it's fine. OK, it's not what you imagined, and I get that, but it's done now.

I really do think it looks fine. I also think, if you want to have a leg sleeve, then it will work better with them touching rather than being 2 (or 3, with the one on the front?) seperate images with extraneous filler stuff drawn around them to join them together. It'll look more like a cohesive image iyswim.

I do like PPs idea of a bit of green irridescence on the beetle to bring it forward and stom it fading into the owl.

As for how to turn them into a sleeve, what's the one on the front? What style do you like?

It’s a tricky one with tattoos, I mean being honest about someone else’s tattoo is often the same as saying “I don’t like the way you look now”.

But you asked for honesty.

I think the design looks unsophisticated. It’s also not pretty and dominates a really nice right leg - I’d love to have your legs!

I admit I’m not a fan of tattoos (but as an aside I have a huge curiosity about why people get them).

In any case, having said all that, it’s not the worse tattoo in the world. I’d give it a solid 5/10. And I’m sure it’ll start feeling more normal on you soon.
