Just had my first tattoo - how to look after it (with pic)

I had this done yesterday and firstly I just want to show it off

The artist said to leave it uncovered during the day wherever possible. The thing is, I've got two pre-schoolers and I'm a bit stressed about how to keep it from being touched and bashed! One of them has already managed to touch it. It's also surprisingly hard to stop this area coming into contact with things whilst going about day to day activities. How long do I need to be this careful? Obviously I am doing the best I can but I'm so worried it will get infected or damaged or something

You can buy something called tattoo goo, it stops the skin from drying out and becoming flakey. Heals tattoos really well. Also do not pick, at all. Otherwise you will pick out the ink. Take it from someone who did this and had to have it filled twice.

also you don’t need to cover it after the initial day, the skin will heal over and scab very quickly so get as much air to it as possible

The artist gave me a couple of aftercare products, I'm just so scared of things coming into contact with it as I go about my day. I suppose all I can do is be careful... I'm just so hyper-aware of it, I feel like I need to sit with my arm sticking out all day!

Did they tell you to put bepanthan on it every day. A couple of times a day probably. Dh has loads of tattoos and that’s what he always does.
It’s going to get itchy too in a couple of days. Try not to scratch!

@TM1979 not Bepanthen, I was given some special tattoo soap and ointment to use a couple of times per day. It's keeping it clean and untouched in between that's making me anxious!

I wasn't told to keep it untouched, just given bepanthen and told to wash with unperfumed soap. It healed grand.
