Swimming 2 days after a tattoo, is this a very bad idea?

I’ve stupidly booked a spa day a few days after booking a tattoo and it will be hard to change one or both dates. What’s the reason for not getting it wet? Is it due to possible infection or might it damage the tattoo? I’m looking at waterproof coverings but not sure how good they are. Advice very gratefully received, this will only be my second one so I’m really not an expert.

Yeah. You can’t do both. Not even if you use Tegaderm on the tattoo. Sorry

Don't do it! Your skin might get infected and grim.

Grim skin? Only on Mumsnet 😂

You will have what is a large open wound.

You would not go swimming with a large open wound, ever. Treat a tattoo the same way.

Nooooooooo! This is a massive no. You absolutely cannot go in a pool/hot tub/bath after being tattooed.

You need to rearrange one of them.

Wow thanks, really didn’t realise this was such a bad idea - will try and rearrange the tattoo, the spa was a present so I don’t think that can be changed.

I mean I did go in the swimming pool after getting a drunken tattoo in Magaluf on my foot. I didn't get an infection or anything but yeah I wouldn't advise it. It was pretty dumb but I was pretty dumb back then🤦‍♀️

Yes, terrible idea. Don’t do anything to fuck with the healing of a tattoo because a. Infections suck and b. Tattoos are bloody expensive!

I was a swim teacher when I got my first tattoo so I didn't have much choice but to be in the water the day after I got my tattoo, i did try and keep it out of the water as much as possible but it was inevitably go to get wet. I was lucky and didn't get an infection but I don't think it's recommended because the risk of infection is higher in public areas of water.
