Where to get 1st Tattoo

I have plucked up the courage to get my 1st ever tattoo. Have finalised a design and appointment is in a couple of days. I was initially planning on getting it just below the wrist area. But worried it'll be too painful there 😬, so wondering if forearm is better. It'll be a small tattoo. I have no idea what pain to expect...any suggestion / advice will be helpful. Also, I am travelling 2 days after the appointment...will It still be painful then? It's a long journey and I am stressed now thinking it'll be painful and cause discomfort during the journey...Should I reschedule to after I am back? Thank you all!

Hi, congrats on taking the plunge! The wrist can be painful , how big is the tattoo? If it's really tiny then it won't take long to tattoo, it might be worth putting up with the pain if that's where you want it.

It feels like a cat scratch, according to my memory anyway!

My wrists didn't hurt very much but they were small tattoos, the one on my forearm was really painful but much bigger. It really depends how small it is

I went with with shoulder for my first which was pretty low pain compared to some others I've had.

Ah so potentially both areas can be painful then. I think I can handle pain, but not knowing what sort of pain and how bad it'll be, i am stressing a bit. I had to postpone the appointment as I haven't been well the last few days...so it's end of next week now.
It'll be a small infinity tattoo with a name underneath (5 letters) so hoping it won't be too bad. @LadyLump how big was your tattoo around the wrist?
@Capitulatingpanda I really like the idea of shoulder tattoos...but for this one, I want somewhere I can see it.
Thanks @pinkyredrose I am very happy to have made up my mind...just need to get it done now. I do prefer the idea of the wrist compared to the forearm, but if forearm was considerably less painful, I'd have just gone for it. But looks like it might not be! Anyways I have a few more days to consider options now 😀

As it’s small, it probably won’t matter where you have it; from my experience, tattoos hurt the longer you’re in the chair. I have both wrists done and felt very little. The worst pain for me was my collar bones.

Thanks @MelBushman, that makes sense...the longer it takes, the more painful it'll be...so hopefully I'll be fine with my choice of tattoo...will go with the wrist!

i had this tattoo done on tuesday - first ever tattoo. i used numbing cream - worked a treat - i didn't feel any of the outline at all. It pretty much wore off for the colour - but tbh it wasn't that bad!
