Nose piercing infected, thought it was healed

I've had my nose pierced over a year now. I thought it had healed, so put a ring in it a few weeks ago. All was fine until this evening it just started to hurt and it looks infected now. It didn't get knocked or anything. Its quite red and has a puss spot. I had the usual irritation bumps when i first had it done but I've never had an infection before.

Do I really need to see a GP about it? I feel so silly going to GP about something self inflicted. Although I'm not sure exactly whats caused the infection.
I've sprayed it with stericleanse. Is there anything else I should do? Might it get better by itself?

Give it a good clean with contact lens solution, and put the straight piercing back in rather than the ring.

The thing is I can't put it back in without going back to the piercer because it's one of those weird hook shape ones, I won't be able to go tomorrow.

DD had nose pierced a few months ago but taking ages to heal, for the last week she’s been crushing an aspirin and making like a paste to apply and puts a plaster over her nose at night to avoid knocking it and it has actually started to settle down.

Yes agree, definitely aspirin paste!

I had a granuloma which was sore an angry a few weeks back and used recuren piercing after care and it's a miracle worker. I got it on Amazon and it cleared my nose up in 2 weeks.

Thanks for your replys. Its definitely not a granuloma so I don't think aspirin will help. I think it's a localised infection. I'm going to bathe it in salt water and hope for the best, I really don't want to see GP about it and the piercing place isn't open today.

Just be careful you get the ratio of salt and water right as that can cause issues. I bought sterile saline wipes as well and found them much better.

Hold a soaked, warm chamomile teabag on it twice a day as well as saline cleaning and leave it alone the rest of the time. I did this with mine, ds1 has just done this with his and it's really effective.

Contact lens solution?! Really?
