How can I check if a tattoo would be seen as offensive?

For my first tattoo (it’s taken me 51 years to work out what I want!) I’d love to have it done based on Bob Marley’s song 3 little birds, only from what I have researched Rastafari don’t have tattoos for religious reasons. The song has become meaningful to me over the last few years, but if it’s going to be seen as offensive to have marked myself with a tattoo based on such a prominent Rastafarian’s work I’d rather not have it done.
How can I find out if it would be ok? Does anyone know who I could contact?

Ask a tattoo artist.

People will find anything offence if they want to. Your not getting the tattoo is upset anyone who is Rastafarian. Your getting it because the song is meaningful to you. Get the tattoo.

You are not a Rastafarian though so how can it be offensive having a design or quote from a song than means something to younis fine.

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/11/2019 14:39

What are you having done? A full back of lyrics or a tattoo of three little birds? Or somewhere in between?

Thestrangestthing · 25/11/2019 14:39

They don't get tattooed because of religious reasons, not because they find it offensive. You are not rastafarian.
Some religions don't allow drinking alcohol, I don't think they find it offensive when other people drink alcohol.

How about getting the tattoo anyway, but having it positioned where it's unlikely to be seen by anyone who might be offended by it?

Foslady · 25/11/2019 14:58

Thanks for giving me a different perspective on it - I’m definitely more inclined to have it now!
I want a music stave with the ‘don’t worry’ three notes on it but the black dots being birds in either Jamaican gold, black and green or Rastafarian colours of red gold and green (at work at the moment so sneaking on here!)

That sounds really nice go for it Smile

It sounds nice. The colours... I don't know.

Foslady · 25/11/2019 15:34

Hmmm......that’s my concern @MrsTerryPratchett, I’d read that the birds were canaries so wondered about all yellow......but that’s anacdotal....... but I suppose would be the easiest colour to change if I wanted to at a later date
