Ammonia smelling second hand fleece

I was kindly gifted some fleece lining today in preparation for some guineas I am getting soon, but unfortunately they smell quite strongly.
how do I safely clean them? This is the first time I’ve planned on using fleece, is this something that happens commonly?

it’s been a long time since I’ve had piggies and the advice is very different now so feeling as thought I am learning from scratch

Thank you, I’ll get something ordered, I’m in the UK so not sure if that’s very easy to get hold of, I’ve washed twice with vinegar on a hot wash and still have a smell
