Anyone got roof rats?

I used to have pet rats but when the kids were little I decided to not have any more because I couldn't give them the attention they needed.

But I really miss having rats! The kids are adults now and I miss the cute ratty neck snuffles.

I watch a lot of rat videos on YouTube and really really want a couple of roof rats.

My favourite ever would be a Gambian pouched rat but I'm not sure if you can even have them as pets in the UK and my husband has taken ten years to come round to the idea of me having some little ones! I've got sod all chance of getting a pouched rat past him. 😁

I thought you were asking if anyone had rats in their roof. We used to when we rent a cottage on a farm.

I had Rats as a child and then got them for my children.

I wouldn't get from Pets at home I didn't realise until afterwards that they farm them in big warehouses and the ones up for adoption are often old stock. They are well known for having respiratory problems.

We got our first two from Pets at home and they died young.

The second lot we got from a breeder who handled them regularly and they were completely different and lived long (for a Rat) and happy lives.

The sad and great thing about them is they don't live long. We didn't get anymore as DH was wheezing a lot we he'd been around them and we realised he was allergic.

There's a few Facebook groups...be careful sometimes they can be harsh if you ask a question.

There's a great Pet food supplier called Rat Rations that does a good balanced food for them.

We also have roof rats, well squirrels and Pigeons which sound like Rats scrabbling on the roof.

They're just amazing pets.

I have mainly had Dumbo rats in the past. I've always preferred a male pair. Maybe it's just coincidence but have always been more chilled than the female pairs I've had.
